BI & Data Specialist | Power BI, SQL & FP&A

Compensation: $110K CAD + discretionary bonus, flexible based on experience

About the Opportunity
Our client is a rapidly growing organization operating across multiple business units within the specialty construction and infrastructure services sector. The company has experienced significant organic growth and expansion through acquisitions and is continuing to scale its operations.
We are seeking a BI & Data Specialist to take ownership of business intelligence, reporting, data quality, and analytics while working closely with Finance and Operations leadership.
This is a hands-on, build-and-own role for someone who can bridge the technical side of BI with the financial side of the business. The ideal candidate will have strong Power BI and SQL capabilities along with corporate FP&A experience and an understanding of how reporting supports financial planning and business decisions.
Key Responsibilities
- Build, maintain, and enhance production Power BI models, reports, and dashboards
- Develop and maintain SQL queries to extract, transform, validate, and analyze data
- Own data models and reporting processes from source systems through SQL/ETL into Power BI
- Develop and maintain DAX measures and Power Query/M transformations
- Identify and resolve data quality, reconciliation, and reporting issues at the source
- Partner with Finance and Operations to develop reporting that supports FP&A, financial reporting, and business decision-making
- Support company-wide and business-unit KPI reporting
- Analyze financial and operational data to identify trends, variances, and opportunities
- Work with stakeholders to understand reporting requirements and translate business needs into technical solutions
- Help improve reporting processes, data structures, and overall data quality
- Manage changing priorities and proactively communicate issues, risks, and blockers
- Work independently while collaborating with Finance, Operations, and IT
Required Qualifications
- 4+ years of hands-on Power BI experience, including building production models and reports
- 1 to 2 years of corporate FP&A experience
- Strong T-SQL / SQL Server experience, including the ability to write and debug queries independently
- Strong understanding of data modeling, ETL, reconciliation, and data quality
- Strong DAX and Power Query/M experience
- Ability to investigate reporting issues and trace problems back to the underlying data source
- Understanding of financial reporting and how data supports FP&A and business decisions
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work independently
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with DataRails
- Python or SSIS experience
- SharePoint / Power Automate experience
- Power BI administration, including workspaces, RLS, refreshes, or deployments
- Experience within PE, financial services, construction, manufacturing, or distribution
- Experience supporting multi-entity organizations
- Additional financial reporting or corporate finance experience
