How You’ll Contribute
The Accountant at Assemble will play a key role in our accounting operations, owning month-end close while overseeing accounts receivable and accounts payable - including cash application, collections, vendor payments, and payment runs. This role also owns monthly payroll and commission calculations for our 80+ person team, ensuring accuracy and timeliness across every pay cycle. In addition, you will support with external audits by preparing supporting schedules and coordinating documentation requests with auditors.
Partnering closely with Event Operations, the Accountant provides budget tracking and financial analysis that inform key business decisions. The ideal candidate will execute with accuracy and reliability while proactively identifying opportunities to improve processes and strengthen internal controls - a great fit for an experienced accounting professional who thrives in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.
In this role, you will:
- Own key aspects of the month-end close process, including preparing journal entries, accruals, balance sheet reconciliations, investigating reconciling items, and maintaining supporting schedules.
- Review and reconcile cash applications in QuickBooks Online and Salesforce, monitor accounts receivable balances, partner with the Billing team on collections, and investigate and resolve payment discrepancies.
- Oversee the accounts payable function by reviewing vendor invoices, supervising weekly payment runs prepared by the accounting contractor, and initiating ACH, wire, and other electronic payments.
- Administration of monthly commission calculation and payroll processing for 80+ employees
- Manage and process employee expense reports in accordance with company policies.
- Support audits by preparing schedules, responding to auditor requests, and coordinating PBC (Prepared by Client) documentation.
- Maintain accurate accounting records and supporting documentation while monitoring shared finance inboxes and responding to inquiries from employees, vendors, customers, banks, auditors, and other business partners.
- Partner with the Event Operations team to monitor event budgets, cost of sales, and financial performance, providing financial analysis and recommendations to support successful event planning and execution.
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, strengthen internal controls, and increase operational efficiency.
- Assist with special projects and other accounting and finance initiatives as assigned.
What Sets You Up for Success
You don’t need decades of experience to make a big impact here - just the mindset, motivation, and willingness to learn fast. You’ll thrive in this role if you bring:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance, with 3+ years of progressive accounting experience, including full-cycle month-end close (journal entries, accruals, reconciliations)
- Hands-on experience managing both AR and AP functions, including cash application, collections, vendor invoice review, and electronic payments
- Proficiency with QuickBooks Online (or similar ERP) and Excel; Salesforce experience a plus
- Experience administering payroll and/or commission calculations for 50+ employees, with strong accuracy and discretion
- Prior experience supporting external audits (PBC documentation, schedule prep, auditor inquiries)
- Strong cross-functional communication skills, with ability to partner with non-finance teams and manage multiple stakeholder relationships
