Production Supervisor
Location: Kenora, Ontario
Employment Type: Full-Time, Permanent
Work Arrangement: In-Person, 5 Days per Week
Salary: $72,000–$85,000 per year
Position Summary
This is a hands-on working supervisor position responsible for supporting daily production activities on the shop floor while providing leadership, training, direction, and administrative support to the production team. The role includes a combination of hands-on production work and office-based administrative duties.
The Production Supervisor is responsible for leading the day-to-day activities of the production team while actively working alongside employees to ensure production is completed safely, efficiently, and to quality standards. This role provides hands-on support by operating production equipment, assisting during busy production periods, covering employee absences when required, and ensuring production goals are achieved safely and efficiently. The successful candidate will coach and train employees, promote continuous improvement, and foster a positive, safety-focused work environment.
Key Responsibilities
Production & Operations
- Supervise daily production activities to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and on schedule.
- Work alongside production employees on the shop floor and operate manufacturing equipment as required to support production.
- Provide hands-on assistance during employee absences, vacations, peak production periods, and other operational requirements.
- Coordinate daily workflow and adjust priorities to meet production schedules and customer requirements.
- Monitor production output and ensure work is completed to quality standards.
- Troubleshoot production issues and work closely with Maintenance to minimize downtime.
- Complete production records, reports, employee documentation, and other required administrative paperwork.
- Perform routine office and administrative duties, including scheduling, record keeping, data entry, communication, and coordination with other departments.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives that improve safety, quality, and operational efficiency.
People Leadership
- Lead, coach, and support production employees on a daily basis.
- Train new employees on equipment, production processes, quality standards, and safe work practices.
- Provide ongoing coaching, guidance, and performance feedback.
- Promote teamwork, accountability, communication, and a positive workplace culture.
- Assist with employee attendance, scheduling, and day-to-day performance concerns.
- Lead by example by demonstrating professionalism, teamwork, and safe work practices.
Safety & Quality
- Promote a safe workplace and ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and Occupational Health & Safety requirements.
- Ensure employees consistently follow safe work practices and wear required PPE.
- Monitor product quality and ensure customer specifications are consistently met.
- Identify opportunities to improve safety, quality, productivity, and manufacturing processes.
- Participate in incident investigations and implement corrective actions when required.
- Support housekeeping and maintain a clean, organized production environment.
Qualifications
- 3–5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Previous supervisory, lead hand, or team leadership experience preferred.
- Experience operating manufacturing equipment.
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Mechanical aptitude with strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
- Working knowledge of health and safety requirements in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience with Microsoft Office; ERP or production software is an asset.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
Preferred Skills/Abilities
- Experience training, coaching, and mentoring employees.
- Experience working in a manufacturing or industrial production environment.
- Experience supporting continuous improvement initiatives.
- Familiarity with ERP or production management software.
- Ability to identify opportunities to improve safety, quality, and operational efficiency.
