AECL operates on land and territories that have, since time immemorial, been the traditional lands of Indigenous peoples in Canada. Together with our contractor, Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL), AECL is committed to advancing reconciliation with First Nation, Métis, and Inuit communities through a renewed relationship based on recognition of rights, mutual understanding and respect, and meaningful engagement, collaboration, and partnership.
Small Team. Big Impact.
At AECL, your expertise makes a visible difference. As a small and agile organization, individual contributions matter, and your work is closely connected to real‑world outcomes that deliver lasting public value and contribute to outcomes that matter to Canada.
Energizing Canada’s Nuclear Future.
Is AECL right for you?
As a federal Crown corporation, Atomic Energy of Canada Limited's (AECL) purpose is to energize nuclear innovation and power a clean, secure, and resilient future. Through strategic investments in science, technology, infrastructure, partnerships, and talent, AECL is helping to enable the next generation of Canadian nuclear leadership, responsibly manage Canada's nuclear legacy, and invest in a stronger nuclear future for Canadians. Since 2015, AECL has been delivering its mandate through a Government-owned, Contractor-operated (GoCo) business model, whereby Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL) manages and operates AECL's sites on its behalf. Working at AECL means contributing to initiatives that support clean energy, scientific innovation, environmental stewardship, and Canada's long-term prosperity.
Who this role is great for:
This role is a good fit if you:
- thrive in a fast-paced executive environment where priorities can shift quickly;
- bring sound judgment, discretion, initiative, and a high degree of professionalism;
- are skilled at anticipating needs, bringing structure to competing priorities, and following matters through to completion;
- enjoy working closely with senior leaders and building relationships across an organization and with external stakeholders; and
- are comfortable working independently with highly sensitive and confidential information.
What you will do:
As Executive Advisor, you will provide senior-level support to AECL’s President and Chief Executive Officer and Executive Vice-President, Chief Contracts and Finance Officer. Providing dedicated administrative and coordination support to both executives, you will help manage priorities, information flow, correspondence, schedules, travel, commitments, and follow-through, ensuring both executives are prepared and informed and can remain focused on AECL’s most important organizational priorities.
This is much more than traditional administrative support. You will operate with a high degree of independence, discretion, and judgment, assessing competing demands and determining what requires executive attention. You will develop decision-ready materials, draft communications on behalf of the executives, manage sensitive and confidential information, and help ensure matters are advanced through to completion.
You will work across AECL with executives, senior leaders, managers, employees, and administrative staff to coordinate priorities, obtain information, facilitate decision-making, and advance commitments. Externally, you will interact with government representatives, external organizations, vendors, consultants, and other stakeholders in support of executive priorities.
This is a unique opportunity for someone who enjoys being at the centre of a dynamic executive environment, can see what needs to happen next, and has the judgment and initiative to help make it happen.
What you bring:
We recognize that no candidate will meet every requirement. If your experience aligns with the core responsibilities of this role, we encourage you to apply.
- Post-secondary education in Office Administration, Business Administration, Public Administration, Communications, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Significant experience providing senior-level support to multiple executives in a complex, fast-paced, and highly confidential environment.
- Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities, anticipate executive needs, exercise sound judgment, and work independently with minimal direction.
- Strong experience coordinating executive calendars, correspondence, meetings, travel, information flow, commitments, and follow-up.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience preparing executive correspondence, presentations, briefing materials, and other decision-ready information.
- Strong relationship-management, organizational, and problem-solving skills, with the discretion and professionalism required to work effectively with senior leaders and internal and external stakeholders.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft 365 and digital productivity tools
- Bilingualism in English and French is required (intermediate proficiency BBB).
What we bring:
- Salary:
- The hiring range for this role is between $76,900 and $96,200 based on compensable factors such as qualifications and experience.
- The full salary range for this role is broader than the hiring range. Employees progress through the salary scale over time in accordance with AECL’s compensation philosophy and procedures.
- Benefits:
- Comprehensive medical and dental benefits through the Government of Canada, providing stability and peace of mind so you can focus on your work and well-being.
- Participation in the Public Service Pension Plan, an indexed, defined-benefit pension plan that supports long-term financial security and helps you plan confidently for retirement.
- Vacation, personal and floating days, recognizing the importance of rest and balance in support of your physical and mental wellbeing.
- A confidential Employee & Family Assistance Program, providing support for you and your family during life’s challenges, so help is available when it’s needed most.
- A flexible hybrid work model, supporting focus and flexibility while maintaining strong in-person collaboration through four days in the office or on-site.
- Paid time off during the year-end holiday period, from December 24 through January 1, giving you dedicated time to rest, recharge, and spend time in ways that matter most to you.
- Performance-based incentives, reflecting the value of meaningful contributions and delivered outcomes.
What you can expect:
- Location: This role is based out of AECL’s Ottawa office location.
- Hybrid Work Model: AECL follows a hybrid work approach. On-site presence is required four days per week (Monday to Thursday) to support operational needs and role responsibilities.
- Security Clearance: The selected candidate must successfully meet Government of Canada security clearance requirements.
- Application Process: While we sincerely appreciate all applications, only those candidates selected for an interview will be contacted.
Recruitment Timelines:
Please plan to be available on the following dates if you are selected for an interview. If these dates are not accessible to you, please let us know and we will work with you to find other suitable options.
- Posting closes on November 6
- Interviews will be scheduled for the week of November 9
At AECL, we are committed to building an authentic workplace. Promoting diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility matters to us. We welcome applications from women, visible minorities, Indigenous Peoples, persons with disabilities, and persons of any gender identity, expression, or sexual orientation.
- vous épanouissez dans un environnement de direction au rythme effréné où les priorités peuvent changer rapidement;
- faites preuve de discernement, de discrétion, d’initiative et d’un grand professionnalisme;
- êtes habile à anticiper les besoins, à structurer les priorités concurrentes et à mener les dossiers à terme;
- aimez travailler en étroite collaboration avec les cadres supérieurs et tisser des liens au sein d’une organisation et avec les parties prenantes externes;
