What We’re Building
Avee is a fast-scaling healthcare technology platform reshaping how primary care is delivered in British Columbia. We connect patients, healthcare providers and partners through technology that makes accessing and delivering care faster, simpler and more scalable.
Hundreds of thousands of patients access care through Avee, and we are still early in what we are building. Our platform sits at the intersection of healthcare, software, AI and operations, tackling one of the hardest problems in the system: how to dramatically increase access to care without scaling cost and complexity at the same rate.
We are a lean, ambitious team building the infrastructure for a new model of healthcare delivery. We move fast, take ownership seriously and expect technology to create real leverage across the business.
The role
You'll join a cross-functional team and take ownership of a meaningful part of the platform, from understanding the problem through to operating what you build in production.
This is not a role where engineering starts with a finished specification. You'll work closely with operations, doctors and partners to understand what is actually happening on the ground, translate that into product and technical decisions, make the design calls and stay accountable for the outcome after launch.
Right now, that means migrating our core to a modern stack, automating more of the work around each visit, bringing AI deeper into the product, and keeping a health-data platform secure and reliable as it grows.
The common thread is scale. We are building systems that can support significantly more appointments, users and operational complexity without costs growing at the same pace.
How we work
AI agents are part of almost every stage of our engineering workflow, from debugging and design to writing code and operating production systems. We use them to increase the leverage of a small engineering team, not to replace engineering judgment.
The direction, architecture, tradeoffs and what ultimately ships remain the engineer's responsibility. We experiment with new tools and practices early, measure whether they actually improve how we work, and keep the ones that earn their place.
We value people who are comfortable moving quickly without becoming careless, who can work through ambiguity, and who think beyond individual tickets to the system, product and business behind them.
What you bring
- Solid experience across backend, frontend and infrastructure
- Strong fundamentals and good design judgment
- Experience evolving a live production system safely
- Good judgment about how to test and verify a change
- Interest in the product and the business behind it
- Clear communication with people outside engineering
Our stack
Django and PHP, React and Vue, MariaDB and Redis, on AWS. We also work deep integrating Oscar EMR and with the fax and VoIP systems healthcare still runs on.
