Job Title: Photonic Integrated Circuit (PIC) Optical Engineer

ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES
We are seeking an Optical Engineer for a photonic integrated circuits design firm, who would act as the Simulation SME and Lead. This would be a great opportunity for someone with experience in circuit simulation and optical device design looking to further their career in integrated photonics.
- Simulate photonic integrated circuits using commercial tools (RSoft, Lumerical) and custom Python code; automate design optimization and parameter sweeps
- Design and layout optical devices (AWGs, optical hybrids, polarization splitters) across silica, silicon nitride, and silicon photonics platforms
- Validate designs through measurement correlation, convergence analysis, and linking measured performance to fabrication variables
- Lead optical characterization; define test plans and guide technicians in equipment operation and data quality procedures
- Maintain simulation codebase and validation records; communicate technical results to engineering and management teams
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
- Ph.D. in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Optics, or Photonics; or M.Sc. with 4+ years integrated-photonics industry experience
- Strong foundation in guided-wave optics theory, commercial photonics simulators (RSoft, Lumerical), and inverse optical design methodologies
- Proficiency in Python scientific computing (NumPy, SciPy, Matplotlib) and hands-on optical testing (tunable lasers, spectrum analyzers, fiber alignment, insertion loss/PDL measurement)
