BC Place is hiring a Building Security, Control Room (7 months full-time contract) to join the Safety & Security team. Building Security takes overall responsibility for security matters in ensuring the safety and security of guests, clients, employees, and stadium properties and assets. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Safety & Security, this role is also responsible for monitoring the control room, interior and exterior security of the building; including surveillance, access control and asset protection of BC Place and its property.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
- Provide service excellence to guests, BC Place team members and the general public;
- Maintain safety and protect BC Place from any real or perceived threats;
- Follow and enforce BC Place policies, procedures, code of conduct and safety guidelines to ensure ongoing maintenance of the building and security protocols are followed;
- Be approachable by maintaining uniform standards, positive body language and energy;
- Create positive impressions, greeting and welcoming guests and providing pleasant departures;
- Ensure only authorized persons are permitted access to the building and or secure areas;
- Physical protection responsibilities include asset protection, workplace violence prevention, access control systems, video surveillance, and others;
- Monitor/control building temperature, lights, ventilation, through the in-house Building Automation System;
- Monitor alarms and surveillance system and take appropriate action on any incident which may result in loss or damage to property or equipment, or any incident that would endanger the safety of employees and guests;
- Monitor/control all access points and provide access as needed;
- Maintain logs for visitors and other personnel. Ensure only authorized team members and guests are permitted access to the building;
- Assist the public, exhibitors, contractors and others in accessing the facility while also advising them of BC Place rules and policies;
- Conduct scheduled patrols inside and outside the building to prevent fire, theft, vandalism, and threat mitigation;
- Keep daily accurate records of pertinent activities that occur; including security and safety concerns both inside and surrounding the buildings for record keeping and inspection purposes.
Consult with and advise supervisor regarding concerns and problems related in or around the facilities;
- Respond to all building emergencies, including guest- and facility-related emergencies, in a lead or supportive role; assist with the emergency procedures, including evacuations;
- Investigate and complete Incident Reports, in such situations, as injuries, damage to property, theft/loss and assault;
- Maintain a courteous and professional demeanor toward visitors and team members at all times;
- Perform other related duties as required.
WHAT YOU WILL BRING:
- Valid BC Security Worker License with a Security Guard license type;
- Able to work within a 24/7 12-hour shift rotation, including overnights and weekends;
- Physically fit, and able to conduct extensive foot patrols both indoors and outdoors in a range of weather conditions;
- Demonstrated interest and experience in serving the public;
- Positive and professional attitude, with strong customer service skills;
- Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills;
- Ability to handle emergency situations in a calm and professional manner, including strong de-escalation skills;
- Excellent multi-tasking, prioritizing, and organizational abilities;
- Ability to work independently and make sound decisions under pressure;
- Good teamwork skills, on shift partner and with broader team during events;
- Excellent communication skills;
- Digital literacy, proficient with Microsoft Office, experience using surveillance and mobile applications.
Hourly rate of pay: $28.67
This position is covering a 7 months paternity leave from approximately November 14, 2026 to July 8, 2027.
