About BE Ultimate & BE Athletics
We're athletes making high-performance gear for the teams and communities we're part of. Founded in Vancouver, BC, we started as BE Ultimate - designing custom, performance-focused uniforms and apparel for Ultimate frisbee teams - and today we're growing into BE Athletics, our next chapter that brings the same craft, service, and teamwear support to more teams, programs, sports, and communities across the world. We're a Certified B Corporation, and our mission is to enable and inspire athletes, trainers, coaches, and teams to be Better than Ever.
Our business has been built through strong relationships, high-quality custom apparel, and a deep understanding of the athletic community. As we enter our new stage of growth, we are looking to expand into new sports and markets - and we're looking for our first dedicated Business Development Manager to help lead that growth.
The Role
The Business Development Manager will play a key role in expanding our business into new sports, clubs, teams, leagues, and athletic organizations. This is not simply a sales position - we are looking for someone who wants to play a significant role in helping grow the company.
Reporting to the Head of Sales, this is a hands-on growth role for someone who enjoys creating opportunities rather than simply managing an existing book of business. You will be responsible for identifying new markets, developing relationships with key decision-makers, generating new business opportunities, and turning those opportunities into long-term customers.
You'll have the opportunity to help shape our business development strategy, experiment with new approaches, attend sporting events and industry gatherings, and have a direct impact on the growth of a small and ambitious company.
We're looking for someone who is entrepreneurial, proactive, highly personable, organized, and excited by the challenge of figuring out where our next great customers will come from.
What You'll Do - Business Development & Market Expansion
- Identify and pursue opportunities to expand into new sports, leagues, clubs, teams, tournaments, and athletic organizations.
- Research new sports and markets to identify potential customers, trends, opportunities, and competitive landscapes.
- Develop and execute creative strategies for entering new markets and generating awareness of our brand.
- Identify key decision-makers within clubs, teams, leagues, schools, tournaments, and sporting organizations.
- Build and maintain a strong pipeline of qualified prospects.
- Develop new business through proactive outreach, networking, referrals, events, email, phone, and other channels.
- Attend sporting events, tournaments, conferences, and networking opportunities to build relationships and generate leads.
- Become knowledgeable about the unique needs, buying processes, and challenges of different sports and organizations.
- Help increase the company's visibility and reputation within new athletic communities.
- Stay informed about developments and trends across the athletic and apparel industries.
What You'll Do - Sales & Relationship Management
- Initiate and lead conversations with prospective customers to understand their apparel needs, challenges, timelines, and budgets.
- Develop and present product recommendations, proposals, and quotes.
- Manage opportunities from initial contact through negotiation, closing, and handoff to the customer success team.
- Maintain consistent and strategic follow-up with prospects throughout the sales cycle.
- Build strong, long-term relationships with clubs, teams, organizations, and other key customers.
- Identify opportunities to grow existing accounts through additional teams, products, programs, or sports.
- Work closely with internal teams (customer success and production) to ensure a seamless transition from sales to delivery.
What You'll Do - Business Development Strategy
- Help develop and execute the company's overall business development and sales strategy.
- Track leads, prospects, opportunities, and customer activity using our CRM and sales tools.
- Monitor sales activity and results and identify opportunities to improve conversion and outreach.
- Report on business development activity, pipeline growth, new accounts, and revenue.
- Help develop repeatable strategies and processes that can be used to successfully enter additional sports and markets.
What You’ll Do – Market, Client, and CRM Tracking
- Track leads, prospects, opportunities, and customer activity using our CRM and sales tools.
- Monitor sales activity and results and identify opportunities to improve conversion and outreach.
- Report on business development activity, pipeline growth, new accounts, and revenue.
What You Bring
- 3+ years of experience in business development, sales, account management, or a related role.
- A proven ability to generate new business and develop a sales pipeline.
- Strong relationship-building and networking skills.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Confidence initiating conversations with new people through cold outreach, networking, and in-person meetings.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple opportunities and priorities.
- A self-motivated, proactive approach and the ability to work independently.
- An entrepreneurial mindset and willingness to test new ideas and approaches.
- Strong presentation, negotiation, and closing skills.
- Experience using CRM systems and sales tools.
- An interest in and understanding of sports and/or the athletic industry.
