About the Position
We are looking for a mechanically inclined Pipe Beveler to join our production team.
This position is responsible for preparing carbon and other pipe for the bending process. The work includes reviewing work orders and cut sheets, measuring and laying out pipe, operating spooling/beveling equipment, oxy-acetylene cutting, grinding, identifying and marking material, and ensuring finished pipe meets required specifications.
This is a hands-on position where accuracy, attention to detail, safety, and quality workmanship are important.
Key Responsibilities
- Read and understand work orders, cut sheets, drawings and production documentation.
- Measure and lay out pipe accurately prior to bending.
- Operate beveling equipment.
- Set up and safely operate oxy-acetylene cutting equipment.
- Grind and finish pipe ends to required specifications.
- Use tape measures and other measuring equipment accurately.
- Identify and maintain material traceability including heat numbers, serial numbers and job numbers
- Stencil and mark pipe according to work order and customer requirements
- Operate overhead cranes and use slings/rigging to safely handle pipe
- Verify completed work against work orders and travel sheets
- Maintain a clean and safe work area.
- Report defects, discrepancies or quality concerns to the Lead Hand/Supervisor
Skills & Experience We're Looking For
- Strong mechanical aptitude
- Pipe beveling or pipe-preparation experience is a strong asset
- Previous experience working with pipe, structural steel, & fabrication considered an asset.
- Experience with oxy-acetylene cutting.
- Experience using grinders and other hand/power tools.
- Ability to accurately use a tape measure.
- Comfortable working with fractions, measurements, angles and tolerances
- Ability to read and follow work orders, cut sheets and shop instructions.
- Experience operating an overhead crane and rigging loads.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to identify quality issues and communicate them rather than passing defective work forward
- Able to work independently while following established procedures
- Safety-focused and comfortable working around large/heavy pipe
