Role Description The Child Development Specialist is a full-time, on-site role based in Orangeville , ON, supporting children with intellectual and developmental disabilities in a group home setting. Day-to-day responsibilities include assessing developmental needs, planning and implementing individualized support plans, and facilitating age-appropriate activities that promote cognitive, emotional, social, and physical development. The specialist will collaborate with families, caregivers, and interdisciplinary team members to ensure consistent, evidence-informed strategies and interventions. Additional tasks include providing education and guidance to parents and guardians, documenting progress, maintaining accurate records, and contributing to a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment. The role may also involve participating in case conferences, ongoing training, and quality improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
- Strong foundation in Child Development and Psychology, with the ability to apply evidence-informed practices in a residential care setting.
- Demonstrated experience Working With Children in group homes, community programs, schools, or clinical environments.
- Skills in Parent Education and Childcare, including coaching families on strategies to support development and behavior.
- Post-secondary education in Early Childhood Education, Child and Youth Care, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field.
- Knowledge of intellectual and developmental disabilities, and familiarity with person-centered planning and behavior support strategies.
- Strong communication, documentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and collaborate in multidisciplinary teams.
- Ability to maintain professional boundaries, handle sensitive situations with discretion, and follow agency policies and regulatory requirements.
- Current First Aid/CPR certification and a clear background check BRC, QSF training, Safe Management Group Certificate ; experience in residential care or developmental services is an asset.
