BGS Homes is seeking an experienced Civil Engineer to join our team in a full-time, in-person position.
The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting and managing civil engineering aspects of residential and commercial development projects from preliminary design through approvals and construction. The role requires strong technical knowledge, practical construction experience, and the ability to coordinate effectively with multidisciplinary consultants, contractors, municipalities, and regulatory agencies.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute and review preliminary and detailed civil engineering designs for residential and commercial development projects.
- Prepare and review engineering drawings, technical specifications, design documentation, reports, and technical memoranda.
- Prepare contract drawings and supporting documents for tender and construction.
- Review and assess site grading, servicing, drainage, stormwater management, and related civil infrastructure requirements.
- Provide technical input related to stormwater management ponds, FSI systems, sewage treatment systems, septic systems, and site servicing.
- Prepare preliminary and detailed cost estimates.
- Conduct technical research and prepare engineering studies and reports.
- Coordinate engineering input from architects, planners, surveyors, contractors, and other consulting disciplines to ensure fully integrated designs.
- Coordinate with municipalities, conservation authorities, utility providers, and other regulatory agencies as required.
- Attend project coordination meetings with consultants, contractors, architects, clients, and approval authorities.
- Conduct site visits and inspections and provide technical support during construction.
- Respond to technical issues, RFIs, design changes, and site conditions arising during construction.
- Monitor project progress and assist with schedule, cost, quality, and technical coordination.
- Prepare meeting minutes, project schedules, presentations, correspondence, and other project documentation.
- Support tendering, proposal preparation, and contractor coordination when required.
- Ensure engineering work complies with applicable Ontario standards, municipal requirements, codes, and regulations.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from a recognized institution.
- Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Ontario is required.
- Experience in residential, commercial, land development, or construction-related civil engineering.
- Strong knowledge of grading, drainage, stormwater management, site servicing, and municipal infrastructure.
- Practical knowledge of residential development and house design requirements.
- Experience preparing and reviewing construction drawings, specifications, and engineering reports.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- Experience with project coordination and working with multidisciplinary consultant teams.
- Familiarity with Ontario municipal approval processes, engineering standards, and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Strong analytical, technical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including technical and report writing.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is considered an asset.
- Valid Ontario driver’s licence and ability to travel to project sites as required.
