This role is a key Controllership position supporting the governance, financial reporting, and audit oversight of BMO's mortgage entities, which manage approximately $190B in mortgage assets. The incumbent is responsible for financial reporting and governance activities for two OSFI-regulated legal entities, BMO BMMC and BMO MC, each with distinct Boards, reporting requirements, and regulatory obligations.
The Manager serves as the central coordinator for quarterly Board and Committee reporting, including financial statements, regulatory disclosures, and executive management materials, while partnering across Finance, Treasury, Risk, Tax, and Legal to ensure accurate and timely reporting. The role also leads annual audit activities and supports ongoing regulatory compliance.
Acting as the integrator across the mortgage controllership function, this position brings together the overall financial picture and ensures the integrity of legal entity reporting and governance processes. Given the complexity, visibility, and executive stakeholder engagement required, the role demands strong technical accounting expertise, exceptional stakeholder management skills, and a CPA designation (completed or near completion), with public accounting experience considered a significant asset.
Responsible for the financial governance, legal entity management, board reporting, regulatory compliance, and strategic financial oversight of BMO Mortgage Co. (BMO MC) and BMO Mortgage and Mortgage Corporation (BMMC). This role serves as the primary finance partner to the legal entity CEOs, CFOs, Board of Directors, Corporate Controllers, Treasury, Taxation, Legal, and external auditors, ensuring accurate financial reporting and effective governance of the legal entities.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare quarterly and annual Board of Director materials, Audit Committee packages, executive summaries, and supporting analysis for senior management.
- Present financial results, risk insights, and key business matters to legal entity Boards and executive stakeholders.
- Support CEOs and CFOs with board preparation, briefing materials, speaking notes, and responses to Board inquiries.
- Manage legal entity governance requirements, including annual plans, resolutions, corporate documentation, and regulatory filings.
- Coordinate with Corporate Controllers, Treasury, Taxation, Legal, Risk Management, and business partners to ensure compliance with accounting, regulatory, and governance requirements.
- Interpret accounting and regulatory changes, assess financial impacts, and recommend implementation strategies and control enhancements.
- Act as the primary finance contact for external auditors, regulators, and internal audit reviews.
- Maintain and update key legal entity agreements including term loans, demand loans, sub-debt agreements, guarantees, TSAs, omnibus agreements, and other intercompany arrangements.
- Participate in strategic initiatives affecting BMMC and BMO MC, including legal entity restructuring, capital optimization, liquidity management, and operational simplification projects.
Qualifications:
- Typically between 5 - 7 years of relevant experience and post-secondary degree in related field of study or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Salary:
$70,000.00 - $150,000.00

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.
