Role: Senior Production Accountant
Location: Toronto (Hybrid, in office 3 days a week)
The Role: The Senior Production Accountant will work closely with the VP, Production Finance to oversee the production accounting and financial reporting for multiple projects across Boat Rocker’s production slate.
Job Responsibilities:
Production Accounting:
· Oversee all production accounting functions on assigned projections
· Set-up payroll and accounting databases for newly greenlit shows
· Forecast weekly cash-flow needs and submit funding requests
· Process union and non-union payroll, and accounts payable
· Approval of invoices and production payments
· Prepare accurate month-end closing reporting packages
· Drive accurate, complete, and timely cost reporting, tracking of show assets, and qualified tax credit spend
· Set-up and oversee show accountants during shooting, assist with issues and questions
· Ensure timely filing of HST returns
Financial Reporting:
· Prepare analysis, summaries, and reconciliations to inform management and corporate finance on the status of productions
· Support the corporate team with detailed trial balance analysis and trial balance uploads into NetSuite
· Prepare support and backup documentation for corporate audits, production audits, and CRA audit requirements for productions being overseen
· Perform other tasks, analysis, and activities as reasonably required by Boat Rocker Finance
Process Improvements:
· Identify and implement process improvements across production accounting and financial reporting workflows
· Identify opportunities to use AI to create efficiencies
· Monitor adherence to established production accounting processes and internal controls
· Maintain an accurate and up-to-date production accounting manual
Qualifications:
· 5+ years of experience in production accounting, with knowledge of Canadian tax credits, unions, and guilds
· Experience working on Canadian live-action productions
· Understanding of development, pre-production, production, and post-production stages
· Strong analytical skills with attention to detail
· Strong Microsoft Excel skills
· Experience with production accounting systems and Entertainment Partners products, including Smart Accounting, Smart Start, and Movie Magic
· Experience with NetSuite and Workday Adaptive is considered an asset
· The ability to provide services through an incorporated loan-out company is considered an asset
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to handle highly confidential information discreetly
· Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while prioritizing deadlines
Salary Range: $90,000-$125,000
The salary range provided is based on a full-time (40-hour per week) position. This range is non-inclusive of Boat Rocker's vacation days, benefits package, personal leave or other components that the position may be eligible for. Exact compensation will vary based on a wide range of factors, including but not limited to each individual's job-related skills, knowledge, experience, qualifications, and the expectations and responsibilities of the role.
