About the role
We need someone that will provide dependable legal support to lawyers handling personal injury and litigation matters in a full-time, on-site capacity.
Day-to-day responsibilities include:
- File management requiring proactively moving files from intake to trial in a timely manner. The candidate must have the ability to review a file and assess next steps.
- Diligent management of limitation periods and deadlines; tracking, requesting and managing productions
- Preparing correspondence, requesting records, scheduling, updating and maintaining disclosure charts.
- Drafting affidavit of documents, memos, file summaries and motions.
Qualifications
- A minimum five-years experience with Ontario personal injury litigation, accident benefits litigation, or related civil litigation.
- Relevant post-secondary education in law, legal studies, or a law clerk/paralegal program.
- Solid understanding of the Rules of Civil Procedure, the Statutory Accident Benefits Schedule, and LAT procedures.
- Excellent interpersonal and client service skills, strong initiative and ability to work in a team oriented atmosphere.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Office, and Primafact as well as the technical skills to learn newer software.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, to collaborate with lawyers, opposing counsel, and clients.
- Exceptional skills and knowledge of discovery preparation.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage deadlines and limitation periods.
- Trial and hearing preparation.
