Role Description:
The Inventory Supervisor is a full-time position and is responsible for leading the inventory control team and ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and efficiency of all warehouse inventory processes. This role oversees daily inventory counts, audits, slotting, quality checks, and ERP/WMS updates while training staff and ensuring compliance with all company policies. The Inventory Supervisor plays a key role in maintaining optimal inventory levels, reducing variances, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives across the warehouse.. The role also involves clear communication with internal stakeholders to address inventory issues and support efficient, customer-focused operations.
Core Responsibilities:
Team Management
- Supervise and lead the inventory team, ensuring all staff follow company policies and established processes.
- Train employees on inventory control procedures and update processes as required.
- Develop and motivate the team to meet and exceed departmental goals.
- Manage daily communication with management and provide recommendations for improvements.
Inventory Control & Accuracy
- Oversee daily cycle counts, bin audits, and inventory validations. ·
- Verify and validate bin counts and product locations. ·
- Reconcile inventory variances by identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions. ·
- Prepare and process inventory adjustments for high or low variance items.
- Ensure accurate tracking of spoilage, proper food rotation, and documentation of quantities.
Systems & Process Management
- Maintain accurate produce inventory levels within the ERP system.
- Champion and optimize the Warehouse Management System (WMS), ensuring proper slotting and data integrity.
- Generate daily reports and logs to support operational decision-making.
- Collaborate with purchasing to reduce slow-moving items and increase inventory turnover.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with the Quality team on product quality checks.
- Coordinate with buyers to determine handling plans for product concerns.
- Partner with the Receiving team to ensure proper receiving practices and adherence to inventory policies.
Continuous Improvement
- Identify procedural gaps, develop improvements, and help achieve company inventory goals.
- Recommend and implement changes to prevent repeat variances.
- Support overall operational efficiency by optimizing inventory control processes.
Additional Duties
- Process credits and returns on a daily basis.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements and Skills:
Physical requirements
- Ability to work in a warehouse environment, including refrigerated areas.
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs. as needed.
- Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout the warehouse for extended periods.
Skills:
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies
- Experience with material handling equipment and warehouse safety standards
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
- Proven ability to regard situations with a sales and customer service perspective.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal abilities
- Multi-tasking abilities
Qualifications:
- 2–4 years of inventory control or warehouse supervision experience; food distribution experience is an asset.
- Strong understanding of ERP and WMS systems.
- Ability to lead, train, and develop a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail with a commitment to accuracy, safety and continuous improvement.
