As Fractional Finance Transformation Lead, you will work closely with Finance leadership and cross-functional teams to modernize and strengthen the Finance function. This is a hands-on transformation role focused on improving processes, strengthening controls, documenting and standardizing workflows, optimizing finance systems, and driving automation. The ideal candidate brings strong finance transformation experience and enjoys turning manual, inconsistent processes into scalable, efficient, and repeatable operating models.
Your role in Nutshell
You will assess and improve Finance processes, document workflows, identify control gaps, and implement practical improvements across the function. Working closely with Finance leadership and business stakeholders, you will drive process standardization, systems optimization, automation, and stronger controls. The ideal candidate combines strong finance expertise with hands-on experience in transformation and process improvement, with the ability to turn complex or inconsistent processes into clear, scalable, and sustainable ways of working.
What You Will Do
Finance Process Transformation
- Review and assess existing finance and accounting processes across AP, AR, cash management, payroll, month-end close, reporting, budgeting, and other key finance activities.
- Identify process gaps, inefficiencies, duplication, control weaknesses, and opportunities for automation.
- Develop and implement improved future-state processes.
- Standardize processes across teams and ensure consistent execution.
- Establish clear ownership, workflows, approval requirements, and controls.
Process Documentation
- Document current-state (“as-is”) finance processes and workflows.
- Develop future-state (“to-be”) process documentation and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Create process maps, workflow diagrams, checklists, control matrices, and work instructions.
- Develop and maintain a centralized Finance process and procedure library.
- Ensure documentation is practical, easy to understand, and usable by Finance team members.
Finance Systems & Automation
- Review the current use of finance and accounting systems and identify opportunities to improve utilization.
- Partner with Finance and IT to automate manual processes and reduce spreadsheet- and email-dependent workflows.
- Support system enhancements, integrations, and implementation projects.
- Translate Finance requirements into clear business requirements and functional specifications.
- Participate in testing, UAT, implementation, and post-go-live stabilization.
Controls & Governance
- Review existing financial controls and identify opportunities to strengthen the control environment.
- Help establish appropriate approval workflows, segregation of duties, documentation, and audit trails.
- Support the development and maintenance of finance policies and procedures.
- Ensure processes are designed with appropriate compliance and risk considerations.
Change Management
- Work closely with Finance, Operations, HR, IT, and other stakeholders to implement process changes.
- Communicate changes clearly and help teams adopt new processes.
- Develop training materials and conduct training sessions where required.
- Monitor adoption and identify areas requiring additional support or improvement.
Continuous Improvement
- Establish a structured approach to identifying and prioritizing Finance transformation opportunities.
- Evaluate processes based on impact, effort, risk, and scalability.
- Develop transformation roadmaps and implementation plans.
- Track improvements and report measurable outcomes to Finance leadership.

What We’re Looking For
- 7+ years of experience in Finance, Accounting, Finance Transformation, Process Improvement, or Finance Systems.
- Strong understanding of core finance processes, including month-end close, AP, AR, cash management, reconciliations, payroll, reporting, budgeting, and financial controls.
- Demonstrated experience documenting and redesigning finance processes.
- Experience developing SOPs, process maps, workflows, and control documentation.
- Experience with finance/accounting systems and ERP implementations or enhancements.
- Strong project management and stakeholder-management skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple transformation initiatives.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience with automation, workflow tools, AI, or other emerging finance technologies is an asset.
- CPA, CMA, CGA, MBA, or other relevant finance/accounting designation

You are detail-oriented, collaborative, and focused on building processes, controls, and systems that enable the Finance team to operate more efficiently and consistently.

Location: Onsite – 20 hours per week (Mississauga, Ontario)
Compensation: $75/hour
Performance objectives will reflect measurable outcomes in profitability, cash management, financial reporting, and operational execution.
