Site Services Superintendent
Reporting to the Maintenance Manager. The Site Services Superintendent is responsible for providing effective leadership and oversight of site services activities to support the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of Braya Renewable Fuels’ facility. This role provides direction to site services personnel and contractors while ensuring work is planned, coordinated, and executed in accordance with company standards, regulatory requirements, and established safety and environmental practices.
The Superintendent works collaboratively with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, Safety, and other departments to coordinate site services activities, prioritize work, manage resources, and address operational requirements. The role is also responsible for supporting continuous improvement initiatives, maintaining strong contractor relationships, and ensuring that site services activities contribute to the overall reliability and performance of the facility.
The successful candidate will be a strong people leader with sound operational judgment, excellent communication skills, and a demonstrated commitment to safety, teamwork, and operational excellence.
Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership and oversight to Site Services personnel, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with Braya standards and requirements.
- Plan, coordinate, and prioritize Site Services activities to support refinery operations, maintenance, projects, turnarounds, and other major site initiatives.
- Oversee the maintenance and upkeep of site infrastructure, including roads, buildings, grounds, common areas, access routes, parking, and laydown areas.
- Manage site fleet, vehicles, mobile equipment, fueling operations, rentals, and other resources required to support site operations.
- Coordinate and oversee contractors, service providers, and general site services, ensuring work is properly planned, executed, monitored, and compliant with site requirements.
- Collaborate with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, EHS, Procurement, and other departments to identify priorities, coordinate resources, and resolve issues.
- Ensure Site Services activities comply with applicable legislation, regulatory requirements, environmental expectations, and Braya policies and procedures.
- Promote a strong safety culture and ensure employees and contractors follow safe work practices, permits, procedures, and site requirements.
- Monitor Site Services costs, contractor performance, resource utilization, and service delivery, identifying opportunities for improved efficiency and cost control.
- Ensure appropriate equipment, materials, supplies, and resources are available to meet operational and project requirements.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives that enhance safety, reliability, efficiency, and overall site performance.
- Support employee development through clear expectations, coaching, feedback, and ensuring required training, competencies, and certifications are maintained.
- Participate in incident investigations, audits, inspections, corrective actions, and emergency response activities as required.
- Maintain effective communication with employees, contractors, and leadership regarding priorities, work status, risks, and operational requirements.
- Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Manager.
Qualifications:
- Interprovincial Red Seal Journeyperson certification or Post-secondary education in a relevant technical, trades, engineering, business, or facilities-related discipline is preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in an industrial, refinery, manufacturing, energy, or similar operating environment.
- Previous supervisory or management experience, with demonstrated ability to lead employees and contractors in a safety-critical environment.
- Strong knowledge of site services, facility operations, maintenance support, and general industrial services.
- Demonstrate effective leadership skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills including the ability to effectively train and mentor.
- Maintain liaison with other departments.
- Exemplary record in Health, Safety, and Environment.
- Proven problem-solving capabilities and ability to meet deadlines, identify potential issues, and develop solutions.
- Computer literacy (an asset), i.e., Microsoft Office Suites and (Computerized Maintenance Management System) such as Maximo.
- Exhibit integrity, honesty, and willingness to work hard and smart to support objectives.
