Introduction
Brunel is seeking an Industrial Hygiene Technician to support occupational health, exposure monitoring, and industrial hygiene programs within a complex industrial operating environment. This role is responsible for supporting respiratory protection programs, exposure monitoring activities, chemical management processes, data integrity, regulatory compliance, and field-based industrial hygiene initiatives.
Working closely with health, safety, operations, maintenance, and contractor stakeholders, the Industrial Hygiene Technician will provide hands-on technical support, coordinate field activities, maintain critical records and systems, and contribute to the continuous improvement of industrial hygiene programs across site operations and project activities.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate and conduct respiratory protection fit testing activities, including scheduling, equipment preparation, testing, documentation, record maintenance, and employee follow-up.
- Support industrial hygiene exposure monitoring programs including noise, dust, chemical, particulate, vapour, and other occupational exposure assessments.
- Prepare, calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot industrial hygiene monitoring equipment.
- Collect, document, and manage field sampling data while maintaining chain-of-custody requirements and record integrity.
- Support chemical management activities including Safety Data Sheet (SDS) administration, chemical approvals, inventory reconciliation, and regulatory compliance requirements.
- Maintain accurate industrial hygiene records, databases, reports, and monitoring documentation to ensure audit readiness and data quality.
- Provide support for gas detection programs, equipment readiness activities, calibration tracking, and associated documentation.
- Assist with radiation and NORM-related monitoring activities, documentation, and follow-up requirements.
- Support operational and turnaround activities by coordinating monitoring programs, equipment logistics, contractor interactions, and field documentation.
- Prepare routine reports, dashboards, and performance metrics to support compliance, operational planning, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure occupational health risks are effectively identified, assessed, and managed.
- Participate in field inspections, audits, investigations, and industrial hygiene program improvement initiatives.
Requirements
- Diploma or Degree in Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health, Health & Safety, Environmental Health, Science, Engineering Technology, or a related discipline.
- 3 to 5 years of experience supporting industrial hygiene, occupational health and safety, environmental monitoring, or operational health and safety programs within an industrial environment.
- Knowledge of respiratory protection programs, quantitative fit testing, occupational exposure monitoring, chemical management, and WHMIS requirements.
- Experience working with health, safety, environmental, or industrial hygiene management systems and databases.
- Familiarity with exposure monitoring techniques, sampling methodologies, calibration processes, and chain-of-custody procedures.
- Strong understanding of occupational health regulations, exposure limits, hierarchy of controls, and industrial hygiene best practices.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, along with experience using reporting and data management systems.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to maintain accurate, confidential, and audit-ready records.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills with the ability to engage employees, supervisors, contractors, and operational teams.
- Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and perform effectively in a dynamic industrial environment.
