Position Overview
We are seeking an analytically sharp, systems-driven Finance & ERP Manager who serves as a strategic business partner to the President, managing all finance and accounting functions while leveraging our Odoo ERP platform to drive operational visibility and corporate profitability. Operating in a tight-knit company of <30 employees, this standalone leadership role requires a business leader who can translate day-to-day plant operations into long-term corporate financial strategy. Because we operate lean, you must be a proactive builder who isn’t afraid to roll up your sleeves, navigate system errors, and dig into the daily workflows alongside our Staff Accountant to solve operational bottlenecks.
You will not spend your days trapped in repetitive, daily data-entry invoices or standard payroll pipelines; you will oversee an efficient accountant handling transactional bookkeeping. Instead, you will act as a key operational business partner to ownership. You are someone who thrives on getting your hands dirty in the system layout - utilizing your deep command of process manufacturing structures to analyze operational cost variances, audit margins, and optimize our Odoo infrastructure to support secure, scalable business growth.
Core Duties, Responsibilities, Authorities:
- ERP System Ownership & Optimization: Serve as the strategic architect and internal owner of our Odoo platform. Continuously audit, refine, and optimize data flows across the Manufacturing (MRP), Inventory, Purchase, Sales, and Accounting modules to guarantee that production floor movements seamlessly inform executive decision-making and the general ledger.
- Process & Formula Cost Accounting: Own and manage manufacturing cost-accounting architecture. Routinely audit formula-based Bills of Materials (BOMs), verify batch costing modules, monitor raw material price fluctuations, and isolate production yield variances to actively defend corporate gross margins.
- Logistics & Supply Chain Management: Partner directly with the operations management team to analyze freight spend, optimize multi-channel distribution costs, evaluate carrier performance, and maximize warehouse efficiency.
- Financial Control & Oversight: Provide final review and sign-off on month-end and year-end close procedures prepared by the Staff Accountant. Develop rolling cash-flow models, dynamic annual budgets, and cost-containment strategies directly for the President. Ensure the company is in compliance with its tax obligations, including preparation and filing of GST, PST returns and Canadian corporate tax returns.
- Inventory Valuation & Auditing: Lead physical and systemic inventory controls, including cycle count reconciliation frameworks, tracking scrap/waste metrics, and reviewing obsolescence risks for raw chemical/material storage components.
- Commercial Decision Support: Collaborate with the sales pipeline team to build data-informed pricing strategies, map out customer-specific profitability metrics, and structure commission plans that protect bottom-line corporate cash flows.
- Strategic Planning & Support: Work with company leaders to provide financial insights that inform decision-making on operational efficiency, capital expenditures, and growth initiatives. Serve as an integral part of the leadership team, providing financial insights and making recommendations on how to drive the organization forward.
Qualifications:
- Professional Experience: 5+ years of progressive financial analysis, cost accounting, or operations management experience explicitly within a process, formula, or recipe-based manufacturing framework (e.g., Food & Beverage, Cosmetics, Plastics, Rubber Compounding, Paint/Coatings, or Chemicals).
- ERP System Fluency: Mandatory hands-on proficiency navigating and configuring workflow architectures inside mid-market ERP suites. Active familiarity with Odoo is highly valued; intermediate-to-advanced users of NetSuite, Sage, or Microsoft Dynamics who possess an architectural system mindset are also strongly encouraged to apply.
- Technical Mastery: Advanced spreadsheet data-modelling capability (Excel formulas, pivot tables, and data consolidation tools) paired with a clear, structural grasp of inventory valuation methods (FIFO, Weighted Average, and Standard Costing).
- Workplace Profile: A self-directed, 'hands-on doer' who thrives in lean corporate environments without large corporate safety nets. This position demands a dynamic leader who can collaborate on corporate strategy with the President while maintaining the hands-on agility to dive into operational details and resolve systemic bottlenecks inside Odoo. Minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience – ability to develop and motivate staff.
- Academic Background: Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business Administration, or Accounting. A formal accounting designation (CPA) or MBA is highly valued and considered a strong asset for future upward mobility within the organization, though candidates with exceptional, hands-on operational and system implementation track records will be heavily considered.
- Commute Logistics: Ability to maintain a 2- to 3-day weekly on-site operational presence at our manufacturing facility in Georgetown, utilizing the other 2 or 3 days weekly remote flexibility as an uninterrupted focus window for deep financial modelling, reporting and evaluation, and ERP oversight and tuning/improving.
Working Conditions:
- Special working conditions may include working off hours – during key reporting periods.
- This role is hybrid – terms to be agreed with Supervisor.
Remuneration:
Annual Salary for this position is $110,000 CAD to $125,000 CAD annually and will be eligible for the management incentive plan up to a 10% bonus.
