The Material Coordinator is responsible for the receipt, storage, and distribution of Cando's track materials and consumables. Ordering materials and consumables, staging material orders, or arranging transportation of materials to jobsites. The Material Coordinator is also responsible for yard maintenance at 830 Douglas Street and the Brandon PIT, including but not limited to vegetation management and snow removal. This is a 2 Month Term position.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Ensure smooth and timely delivery of track materials to various departments, customers and work sites.
- Maintain accurate inventory records of track materials at the Brandon PIT.
- Submit accurate purchase receipts and sales invoices for month-end purposes.
- Provide accurate material pricing for all outgoing estimates.
- Receive, inspect and verify incoming materials against purchase orders and shipping documentation.
- Collaborate with the Project Manager to schedule transportation for materials and equipment as necessary.
- Identify and report inventory discrepancies, material shortages, delivery delays, and other issues that may affect project schedules.
- Perform monthly Fire Extinguisher inspections and assist Shop Supervisor and Shop Foreman with Monthly and Semi Annual Work Place Inspections.
- Maintain the grounds at 830 Douglas Street and the Brandon PIT (vegetation management, snow removal, etc.)
- Monitor and maintain consumables inventory for track maintenance crews.
- Performs general administrative duties (answering phones, opening mail, filing etc.)
- Provide quality customer, vendor, and employee relations
- Maintain good communication and work together with other departments
- Adhere to company health and safety practices
Skills, Knowledge, & Abilities
- Demonstrates initiative to independently plan, organize, and prioritize workload taking into consideration conflicting deadlines and multiple unrelated projects.
- Demonstrates effective oral and written communication with the general public, employees, and external organizations and able to read parts paperwork
- Ability to exercise discretion and good judgement in providing information to internal or external customers in a courteous and tactful manner with regard to sensitive or confidential issues
- Skilled in the use of computer and office equipment and in Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Demonstrates information gathering skills used to find and identify essential information, with the ability to communicate findings effectively.
- Ability to operate both a wheel loader and skid steer to load and unload incoming and outgoing materials.
- Ability to perform physical components of the role including lifting up to 50 lbs
- Ability to work independently and be available to respond to emergency calls.
Education & Experience
- 1 – 3 years experience as a Material Coordinator is an asset.
- Experience working in a busy office environment focused on customer service
- Knowledge of various types of track materials and tools an asset.
