Role Summary
Canoe Financial is seeking a Corporate Accountant. Reporting to the Manager, Corporate Accounting the candidate will be involved in the daily, monthly and year-end reporting functions of the Investment Manager and its related entities that oversee the Funds under management. This is a full-time position and will be based on-site in our Calgary office.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Prepare and facilitate submission of financial related regulatory compliance items
- Expense allocations and related postings
- Assist in closing the general ledger, including corporate month-end entries and intercompany entries
- Preparation and completion of month-end reconciliations and ad-hoc journals as necessary
- Assist with the analysis and preparation of monthly and annual reporting packages and financial statement notes
- Assistance with preparation of the budget and cost monitoring
- Review transactions and journal entries
- Proactively prepare for month-end and annual corporate financial reporting requirements
- Assist in the preparation of interim and annual fund financial statements and related financial documents
- IFRS research and preparation of memos for new standards and transactions
- Preparation of working papers and coordination with the external auditors
- Assistance with other projects and duties as required
Requirements
The successful candidate has 3-5 years of progressive corporate accounting experience, including month-end and year-end postings and preparation of working paper support. The candidate should be able to work independently as well as part of a team, and have strong communication and teamwork abilities.
- Bachelor’s degree and a Chartered Professional Accountant designation
- Knowledge of IFRS accounting principles
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Experience in the financial services industry is a plus
- Highly skilled in Excel and strong knowledge of other MS products (Word, Teams, etc.)
