The global population is aging, and the need for home care is growing each year. Unfortunately, at a time when care is needed more than ever, the home care industry is facing a crisis – a shortage of care workers.
At Caribou, we're on a mission to solve the caregiver crisis. When caregivers feel valued, recognized, and financially secure, they stay longer, deliver better care, and strengthen our communities.
Caribou is building the engagement infrastructure for the home care workforce and the agentic layer for home care operations. Our platform interfaces with office staff and front-line caregivers to facilitate meaningful recognition, stronger relationships, and operational efficiency.
Caribou was recently recognized as one of The Globe and Mail's Top Growing Companies – #4 in technology – and we're just getting started. Join us as we transform how care organizations recognize and retain the people who make care possible.
Role Summary
As our Senior Product Designer, your job is to make every interaction with Caribou feel simple, intuitive and worth coming back to. Whether someone is picking up an open shift, earning a reward, managing their workforce or interacting with one of our voice agents, they shouldn’t need training or a support call to figure out what to do next.
You’ll be the senior designer on a small, highly collaborative product team, partnering closely with Product, Engineering and Customer Success. You’ll shape experiences across web, mobile, SMS, push and voice, while helping establish the design quality bar across our products.
What you will be doing
- The caregiver and coordinator experience, end to end. Design journeys that span individual features and channels, from a caregiver discovering an open shift to working it and getting rewarded, or a coordinator posting a shift to seeing it filled. You’ll partner with PMs on the outcomes we’re trying to achieve and own how those experiences come to life
- Rewards, engagement and experiences caregivers genuinely want to use. Help us rethink how points, recognition, challenges, personalization and other engagement loops can motivate caregivers and bring them back. You’ll prototype ideas, test them with real users and use data to understand what deserves to scale
- A continuous connection to our users. Build a regular research cadence with caregivers and coordinators through interviews, usability testing, call listening and other methods. Turn what you learn into clear insights that influence what we build and how we build it
- Our product design quality bar. Define what 'simple enough' means in practice, check flows against it before they ship, and sweat the details and help the team recognize when something needs another iteration
- Our design system. Evolve a design system that makes it easier, not harder, for stakeholders to build consistent, high quality experiences quickly
What success looks like in your first 6 months
- You’re regularly talking to caregivers and coordinators and bringing those insights directly into product decisions
- A key caregiver or coordinator journey you’ve redesigned is easier to complete, with product data showing measurable improvement
- We’re seeing fewer “how do I…?” questions for experiences you’ve redesigned
- The team has a clearer, shared definition of what great product design looks like at Caribou
- Nothing ships without passing the quality bar you defined
- At least one voice or conversational experience you’ve helped redesign is live, with real interactions helping us iterate on it
About you
- 5+ years designing digital products, including at least one mobile consumer app and one B2B or operational products
- Shipped products that you’ve lived with beyond launch, measuring what happened, learning from users and iterating based on what you found.
- A portfolio that shows how you think, not just beautiful final screens but the problem, your process, the trade-offs you made and what changed after launch
- Experience designing for people who aren't tech enthusiasts: frontline, hourly or users with mixed digital literacy
- Hands-on research experience, including interviews, usability testing and synthesizing insights into product decisions.
- An MVP instinct: you keep the end vision in mind but ship in small steps and check each one
- The ability to explain your design rationale to PMs, engineers and leadership, and to change your mind when the evidence says so
- Built, owned or meaningfully evolved a design system that engineers actually use
- Comfort using qualitative and quantitative data to understand whether a design is actually working
- Comfort operating in a fast-moving environment where you won’t have a dedicated researcher, copywriter or specialist to hand work off to
Nice to haves
- Experience with conversation design, voice UX or AI-powered products
- Experience designing products across multiple languages, specifically French and Spanish
- Experience in healthcare, staffing, workforce technology or another complex operational environment
Good to know
