About the Day ProgramsYou will be a part of a team that provides individualized therapy while also offering education in a small, therapeutic classroom setting. In CASA’s day programs, children attend as they would a community school. The family and care team work together to support the child’s social, emotional, academic and physical development. Areas of focus include social skills, academic functioning, and emotional and sensory awareness.

About the RoleReporting to the Program Manager, the Occupational Therapy Assistant works both individually and as a key part of the interdisciplinary team under the assignment, monitoring and evaluation of the Occupational Therapist. The Occupational Therapy Assistant will contribute to direct and indirect client care for the treatment of children and adolescents with a variety of mental health conditions.
The Occupational Therapy Assistant will: - Implement treatment plans developed by the supervising Occupational Therapist (OT).
- Provide individual and group treatment to patients in the areas of fine motor, gross motor, sensory, self-care and related skills.
- Complete screens and informal assessments under the direction of the supervising OT (e.g., fine and gross motor observation and screening).
- Participate in group facilitation alongside the Occupational Therapist.
- Provide direct support to the programs as needed to cover breaks and when required to ensure child regulation and engagement within the classroom environment.
- Perform a variety of administrative and organizational tasks such as filing, photocopying, laminating and scheduling appointments.
- Collaborate with and assist the Occupational Therapist in developing programming, materials and activities.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities- Strong interpersonal and rapport-building skills, with the ability to work effectively with staff, patients and families.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational, time management and prioritization skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of an interdisciplinary team.
- Ability to take direction and follow tasks, activities and programs established by Occupational Therapists.
- Knowledge of behaviour management strategies for children and adolescents.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook and SharePoint.
- Group facilitation skills are considered an asset.
Qualifications and Experience- Therapy assistant diploma with proficiency in physical and occupational therapy, or physical therapist and occupational therapist assistant diploma.
- A minimum of two years’ experience working with preschool and school-age children.
- Experience working in collaborative care models and/or multi-disciplinary teams.
- Experience working in mental health is an asset.
Conditions of Employment- A satisfactory Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Search and Child Intervention Check. This would be the financial responsibility of the successful candidate.
- Ability to pass and maintain Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) certification (training provided by CASA) as well as physical ability to perform all interventions.
