Role Description This full-time, on-site Civil Engineer (Structural/Geotechnical) role is based in Sault Ste. Marie, ON. The person in this role will perform structural and geotechnical design for foundations, retaining structures, and building systems using steel, timber, and concrete. Day-to-day responsibilities include preparing calculations, drawings, and technical reports, reviewing site conditions, supporting civil site development and stormwater management designs, and coordinating with architects, contractors, and suppliers. The role also involves participating in project planning, ensuring designs comply with applicable codes and standards, conducting site visits and inspections, and contributing to permit-ready documentation for commercial, residential, and industrial projects. The engineer will collaborate closely with internal team members to deliver practical, cost-effective engineering solutions.
Qualifications
- Strong Civil Engineering Design skills, including structural and geotechnical analysis and design for steel, timber, and concrete structures.
- Experience working as Civil Engineers on commercial, residential, and industrial projects, with an understanding of northern climate construction challenges.
- Ability to perform Planning tasks related to site layout, grading, and coordination of civil and structural components within multidisciplinary projects.
- Knowledge of Stormwater Management principles, including drainage design, erosion control, and compliance with local regulations and standards.
- Solid foundation in Civil Engineering fundamentals, supported by a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and eligibility for professional engineering licensure in Ontario (P.Eng. or working toward P.Eng.).
- Proficiency with relevant design and drafting software (e.g., AutoCAD or similar CAD tools, structural analysis software) and familiarity with Ontario Building Code and applicable CSA standards.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare clear technical documentation and collaborate with clients, contractors, and team members.
- Strong organizational and time-management abilities, including managing multiple projects, meeting deadlines, and responding to field issues.
