Position Description
Join CGI Canada’s Commercial Legal team and support the Western Business Unit across British Columbia and Alberta. This role partners closely with business stakeholders on a high volume of commercial matters, with a strong focus on technology contracting, RFPs, procurement, and contract-related advice.
You will work as the primary legal resource supporting the Western business while collaborating with a broader commercial legal team across Canada and internationally. The role offers exposure to technology services, public and private sector business, and a range of commercial and procurement matters.
This is a hybrid position based in Vancouver, British Columbia or Edmonton, Alberta, with an expectation of working from the office approximately two to three days per week.
Your future duties and responsibilities
- Review RFPs and advise business stakeholders on appropriate contractual and legal structures for bids.
- Draft, review, negotiate and provide timely legal advice on a broad range of commercial agreements, with a focus on technology-related contracts.
- Advise on procurement matters involving third-party software and solutions, telecommunications services, and private and public cloud solutions.
- Partner directly with internal business stakeholders to provide practical and commercially focused legal advice.
- Support the business with contract interpretation, contract management and ongoing contractual matters.
- Manage and resolve contractual disputes.
- Advise stakeholders on CGI policies, procedures and legal frameworks.
- Manage multiple advisory and transactional matters independently, often within short timelines.
- Collaborate with legal team members across Ontario, Quebec, the United States and India.
- Contribute to broader legal team initiatives and increasing integration with the wider Commercial Legal team.
Required Qualifications To Be Successful In This Role
- Law degree from a recognized law school and membership in good standing with the applicable Law Society.
- 4 to 6 years of post-qualification experience as a lawyer in a law firm and/or in-house legal environment, with experience in commercial law and contracting.
- Substantive experience reviewing, drafting and negotiating commercial contracts.
- Experience working in the technology sector and/or with RFPs, procurement or competitive bidding processes.
- Experience with technology contracts and an understanding of technology-related commercial arrangements.
- Strong analytical, drafting and negotiation skills.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple legal matters independently in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.
- Experience adopting AI tools and workflows within a legal practice.
- Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with business stakeholders and distributed legal teams.
Assets
- Experience supporting public sector organizations.
- Experience with information technology-related agreements beyond core commercial contracting.
- Experience working with businesses across multiple provinces or jurisdictions.

CGI is providing a reasonable estimate of the pay range for this role. The determination of this range includes factors such as skill set level, geographic market, experience and training, and licenses and certifications. Compensation decisions depend on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $105,000 - $155,000 . This role is an existing vacancy.
