Coach Positions:
Coaching at Chicopee is an incredible experience. We are currently looking to fill coaching positions in our U8, U12, U14, U16/ U19 programs as well as our Adult House League. These positions run during the week and weekend from January – March. There are opportunities to coach during the pre-season at our dryland training as well as at our Slalom camp. We provide many opportunities to develop your own coaching skills as well as help you achieve your own coaching goals throughout the season.
Position Title: Coach, Snow School (Seasonal)
Department: Recreation – Snow School
Reports to: Manager, Race Programs or designate

Job Summary: The Chicopee Racing Coach will provide alpine race coaching to athletes of all ages and skill levels in a fun, inclusive, and safe environment. Coaches are expected to prioritize long-term athlete development by creating environments and using drills to develop strong skiing fundamentals, confidence, independence, sportsmanship and lifelong enjoyment of alpine racing.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Deliver engaging, effective racing instruction tailored to various age groups and abilities.
- Maintain up-to-date certifications and adhere to all teaching and safety standards.
- Keep accurate and organized records of attendance and athlete development.
- Communicate effectively with students and parents to ensure high levels of satisfaction and feedback.
- Ensure participant safety at all times through risk management and situational awareness.
- Be punctual and adhere to uniform and grooming standards.
- Attend all required pre-season corporate and department training sessions.
- Participate in ongoing on-snow and professional development opportunities.
- Actively work towards achieving higher levels of certification.
- Assist with all aspects of training setup and operations, including carrying equipment, setting and tearing down training environments, course maintenance, gates, stubbies, brushes and other race equipment as required.
- Provide individualized technical feedback and help athletes progress based on their age, ability, and development stage.
- Follow the program’s seasonal objectives, develop weekly training plans, and work collaboratively with other coaches to deliver effective training sessions. Training plans must be completed and shared with the Race Office prior to training.
- Prepare athletes for races, assist with inspections and warm-ups, provide appropriate race-day coaching, and support athletes throughout competition.
- Participate in coach education and actively work toward additional Alpine Canada certification.
- Travel to assigned races when required and represent Chicopee professionally at other clubs.
- Coaches are encouraged to participate in additional weekly training opportunies when available.
- Maintain appropriate supervision of athletes throughout training sessions, including on hill training, in the lift lines, breaks, race days and other program activities.
- Foster a positive team environment by promoting sportsmanship, teamwork, respect, effort, independence and appropriate athlete behavior.
- Support other departments as needed, based on operational demands.
Qualifications:
- Certified and in good standing with Alpine Canada (ACA-CSC); membership dues paid.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Physically capable of lifting up to 20.4 kg (45 lbs) and performing physically demanding tasks.
- Comfortable working in all weather conditions.
- Bilingualism is considered an asset.
- Customer-focused mindset with a passion for snow sports and instruction.
Additional Requirements:
- A strong passion for the recreation industry and desire to share that with others.
- Approachable, empathetic, and a strong listener.
- Flexibility with work schedule, including availability for weekends, evenings, and occasional travel for away races.
- Willingness to work outdoors in varying and extreme weather conditions.
- Provide your own black snow pants (no visible logos) and a personal ski/snowboard helmet certified under one of the following: CSA Z263.1, ASTM F2040, EN 1077, or Snell RS 98.
- A Chicopee uniform jacket will be provided with a $100 refundable deposit and signed Uniform Agreement.
- During Dryland training provide and wear close toed comfortable shoes, athletic attire (with shorts at a minimum 5" inseam, and shirts at a minimum cap sleeve), and all black layering pieces, for warmth or element protection.
- The following qualifications are considered an asset: PSIC (Professional Ski Instructors of Canada), CSIA (Canadian Ski Instructors’ Alliance), CASI (Canadian Association of Snowboard Instructors)
