Role Description
The Surveyor Assistant is a full-time, on-site role based in Surrey, BC, supporting field survey operations for municipal and land development projects. Day-to-day responsibilities include assisting with field measurements, setting up and using surveying instruments, collecting and recording survey data, and helping establish control points and site benchmarks. The role involves working closely with surveyors and engineering staff, ensuring accurate documentation of site conditions, and following safety procedures and quality standards. The Surveyor Assistant may also help with basic calculations, data transfer to office systems, and preparation of field sketches or reports as needed.
Qualifications
- Foundational surveying skills, including familiarity with survey equipment (e.g., total stations, GPS), field measurements, and basic survey techniques.
- Basic technical and math skills, including the ability to perform simple calculations, interpret plans, and understand elevations and coordinates.
- Ability to work safely and effectively in outdoor field environments, including carrying equipment, working in varying weather conditions, and following safety protocols.
- Strong attention to detail, accurate record-keeping, and ability to follow instructions and established procedures.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills for collaborating with surveyors, engineers, and other field staff.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to field sites; clean driving record preferred.
- Relevant education such as a diploma or coursework in surveying, civil engineering technology, geomatics, or a related field is an asset.
- Previous field experience in surveying, construction, or civil engineering is beneficial but not mandatory for entry-level candidates.
Compensation
- $20-$25 dollars an hour based on experience.
