HOURLY RATE $36.92 per hour, Pay Grade 4 - Schedule “B” Outside Employees
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION
- Grade 12 Diploma or GED
- 18 CEU’s from approved courses in either: Water Distribution or Wastewater Collection.
LICENSES / CERTIFICATES
- Valid Class three (3) BC Driver's License with Air Endorsement
EXPERIENCE
- Three (3) years’ experience in a Municipal Works experience or work experience of a similar nature in private industry including:
- Sewer/Watermain Installation/Replacement
- Road maintenance/Asphalt Repair
- Lawn Maintenance/Irrigation Installation
SPECIFIC SKILLS
- Ability to operate municipal works equipment.
- Basic knowledge of computers and general office equipment.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Demonstrated ability to exercise considerable tact, courtesy and diplomacy in dealing with members of the public, other agencies and staff.
- High degree of initiative and sound judgement.
- Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrated ability to perform all of the duties outlined in a safe manner following established City policies and procedures; WorkSafeBC.
Preference will be given to someone with:
- Knowledge of hand signals/ spotter experience.
- Comfortable backing up haul trucks.
- Ability to run hand power tools.
- The ability to install manholes, catch basins, valves, and other pre-cast structures.
- Understanding of typical industry-standard safe working procedures, especially around trenches and heavy equipment.
- Understanding of MMCD, supplementary specifications and civil best practices.
- Someone who thrives being in a production-driven environment while staying friendly, professional, and communicative.
- Attention to detail and desire to provide high-quality workmanship.
- Problem solver.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Available to work various schedules, weekends, holidays, day, evening, and night shifts as outlined in the Collective Agreement.
- Respond to emergency callouts and undertake responsibilities specific to Disaster Services.
- A satisfactory Police Information Check required.
