Range of Pay: $29.22 to $29.95 per hour

Main Function: Perform routine maintenance activities and minor repairs as required to ensure safety and security of the Facility, its equipment and furnishings.
Characteristic: Under the general supervision of the Manager of Physical Services.
Duties
- Perform routine maintenance, repairs and minor construction throughout the buildings and grounds as assigned (e.g. inspections, patching, painting, carpentry, minor repairs to electric beds, ceiling lifts and HVAC system, minor electrical (under supervision) and plumbing (under supervision)).
- Participate in the Facility’s Preventative Maintenance Program including updating the Maintenance Software Program (e.g. routine water temperature checks and periodic deactivation of fire alarm as directed by Fire Department).
- Perform programming, cable relocation and repairs and maintenance to cable television service throughout the Facility.
- Assist tradespersons in the execution of specialized assignments.
- Perform grounds maintenance work when assigned including keeping entrance, sidewalks, walkways and pathways clean and clear of hazards such as snow, ice, debris etc., as well as salt and sand parking lots.
- Set up/take down furniture and equipment in accordance with operational needs.
- Maintain work areas in an orderly and a safe working condition.
- Maintain tools and equipment in good and safe working condition.
- Provide pleasant and courteous services to Residents and the public.
- Provide services in a safe manner at the minimum of inconvenience to Residents and the public.
- Ensure the safety and security of the Facility including locking and unlocking of building accesses on a daily basis.
- Develop and maintain a thorough working knowledge of CGS's Safety Manual and the applicable Provincial Legislation listed therein.
- Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications
Education and Training:
- Successful completion of Secondary School (Grade XII) Education.
Experience
- A minimum of two (2) years of approved directly related experience in institutional building maintenance that provided basic experience in carpentry, plumbing, electrical work or stationary engineering.
Other Requirements
- A thorough working knowledge of the Facility Safety Manual and Disaster Plan, as well as pertinent Facility policies and procedures related to the job function.
- Ability to use tools and equipment required to perform the work (e.g. hand and power tools, carpentry and plumbing tools/equipment, painting equipment, ladder, lawn mower, grass/hedge trimmer, snow removal and salting/sanding equipment, loading dock leveller, etc.
- Demonstrated basic computer literacy utilizing MS Office software and the ability to receive/respond to emails and to input and retrieve information.
- Excellent use of English; verbally and in writing.
- French verbal skills an asset.
- Ability to work independently and as a team member.
- Ability to demonstrate interpersonal skills in dealing with the public in a courteous, professional and effective manner.
- Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System and best practices within areas of responsibility.
- Satisfactory health, attendance and former employment history.
- Provide, at own cost, a Criminal Record Check.
- Provide, at own cost, a Two-Step Mantoux Test (TB).
- Must be physically capable of operating a vehicle safely, possess a valid driver's licence, have an acceptable driving record, and personal insurance coverage.
