JOB SUMMARY
You are responsible for applying engineering knowledge to design solutions, identify technical risks, and offer solutions to mitigate risks in accordance with relevant legislation, regulations, guidelines, and design criteria used in Canada. You also support assigned projects, participate at various internal and external meetings, provide professional expertise and advice to internal and external partners, and prepare various reports.
Infrastructure & Water Services Department is responsible for implementing city-building priorities from planning and delivering infrastructure projects, managing assets and investments, and providing residents with high-quality drinking water, the collection and treatment of wastewater, and ensuring storm and surface water is efficiently managed. Building a better Ottawa for all to enjoy, today and into the future.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Completion of a 4-year Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
Minimum experience commensurate with the completion of a Professional Engineer license within the province of Ontario.
CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENCES
Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO)
KNOWLEDGE
- Specific and general knowledge in the field of application related to the department
- Relevant engineering theories and practices; engineering standards and related national and provincial codes and standards
- Knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, guidelines, and design criteria eg: Ontario Planning Act, Municipal Act, Development Charges By-Law, Ontario Water Resources Act, Clean Water Act, Environmental Assessment Acts, Zoning by-law and Provincial Water Quality Objectives
- Project management and contract management principles and practices
- Community and public consultation processes
- General engineering approval procedures and practices
- Applied research techniques (pilot plant, bench-scale, etc.): set-up, operation, analysis
- Field investigation and surveying techniques
- Relevant design, construction and operational practices for water, wastewater and stormwater systems, facilities, roads, structures, transportation, and/or traffic control management principles
- Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Outlook, etc.)
- Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers.
