Role Description The Construction Estimator is a full-time, on-site role based in Winnipeg, MB. This position is responsible for preparing detailed estimates for commercial outdoor service projects, including snow and ice management, landscape maintenance, and related construction activities. Day-to-day tasks include reviewing drawings and specifications, performing quantity take-offs, analyzing labor, material, and equipment costs, and preparing budgets and tender submissions. The Estimator collaborates closely with operations, sales, and management teams to clarify scope, identify cost-saving opportunities, and ensure estimates align with client expectations and company standards. The role also involves tracking actual project costs against estimates, updating pricing databases, and providing clear communication to internal stakeholders and clients regarding assumptions, risks, and revisions.
Qualifications
- Strong construction estimating skills, including experience developing detailed estimates for commercial or civil projects.
- Proficiency in quantity take-offs and ability to interpret drawings, specifications, and site information accurately.
- Cost management and budgeting skills, including tracking estimates versus actuals and supporting project financial performance.
- Effective communication skills, with the ability to present estimates, clarify assumptions, and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
- Experience with estimating software and MS Excel; familiarity with construction or service management software is an asset.
- Relevant education in construction management, engineering, estimating, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Knowledge of commercial site work, landscaping, snow and ice management, or related outdoor services is preferred.
- Strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines.
