Position Title : Facilitator, Training and Development
Reports To : Manager, Training and Development
I. Scope and summary of primary responsibilities
The Facilitator, Training and Development is responsible for facilitating and delivering training programs that align with Deafblind Community Services organizational goals and enhance employee skills and capabilities. The position will also provide supervision, guidance, and performance support to staff involved in training, onboarding, mentorship, apprenticeship program and learning activities. The Facilitator, Training and Development will work closely with the Manager, Training and Development to implement established training curriculum, deliver onboarding and professional development sessions, coordinate mentorship-related learning activities, and support the effective supervision and development of training staff.
II. Essential functions
- Facilitate and deliver employee training sessions, onboarding modules, and professional development workshops in both virtual and in-person environments.
- Deliver training content using accessible communication methods, including American Sign Language (ASL) and ProTactile, ensuring alignment with Deafblind culture and community practices.
- Support the implementation of the employee training, apprenticeship and mentorship program as designed by the Manager, Training and Development.
- Coordinate training logistics including scheduling, participant communication, attendance tracking, and follow-up.
- Provide day-to-day coordination and quality assurance for training projects and tasks.
- Reinforce learning through coaching, mentorship support, and skill-based practice sessions.
- Maintain and update training materials and facilitator guides in collaboration with the Manager.
- Support the collection of feedback, assessments, and participation data to inform program evaluation.
- Maintain accurate training records and support Learning Management System (LMS) administration.
- Identify operational challenges in training delivery and communicate risks and recommendations to the Manager.
- Model inclusive, culturally responsive, and accessible facilitation practices grounded in Deafblind community values.
- Support staff onboarding, orientation, mentoring, and skill development by observing practice, providing feedback, and escalating performance or conduct concerns to the Manager, Training and Development as appropriate.
III. Qualifications
Knowledge and Skill Requirements
- Demonstrated fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) and ability to communicate using ProTactile methods.
- Demonstrated understanding of Deafblind culture, community norms, and culturally responsive practice.
- Lived experience with Deafblindness (including individuals who are Deafblind or who have direct lived experience within the Deafblind community) is strongly preferred.
- Strong facilitation, coaching, and presentation skills with the ability to engage diverse learning styles.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate effectively with all levels of staff.
- Demonstrated understanding of accessibility and inclusive adult learning practices.
- Demonstrated understanding of standard office software and Learning Management Systems (LMS) and other training technology tools.
- Self-directed, organized, and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Demonstrated ability to provide day-to-day supervision, coaching, and performance support to staff in a respectful, accessible, and inclusive manner.
Experience and Education
- Post-secondary education in human resources, education, training and development, organizational development, disability studies, or a related field is considered an asset.
- An equivalent combination of lived experience, Deafblind community leadership, training facilitation experience, and demonstrated competency in adult learning may be considered in lieu of formal education.
- Minimum 2–3 years of experience in training delivery, facilitation, mentoring peers, or contributing to structured learning environments – preferably in non-profit, healthcare, or social services sector.
- Lived experience within the Deafblind community is strongly preferred; however, candidates without lived experience who demonstrate a strong commitment to accessibility and Deafblind services will be considered.
- Knowledge in adult learning principles and competency-based training models with a passion for fostering a culture of continuous learning.
- Preference given to those with experience working with a mobile workforce.
