Summary
Wapiti Gravel Suppliers, a division of N.P.A., is seeking skilled Screed Personnel to join our highway division!
The Screed Personnel is responsible for the efficient operation and adjustment of the asphalt paver screed. This role plays an important part in the road construction process by controlling asphalt placement, mat thickness, and surface quality to ensure a smooth, uniform, and durable finished product.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the safe and efficient operation of the asphalt paver and screed during paving activities.
- Support the Screed Operator in maintaining specified mat thickness, width, grade, and cross-slope requirements.
- Monitor the distribution of asphalt mix to help ensure a uniform mat and minimize segregation.
- Assist with setting and adjusting screed extensions, end gates, and other screed components as directed.
- Help set up and maintain ski systems, grade controls, and other automated paving equipment.
- Observe the paving process and communicate any quality concerns, irregularities, or changes in roadway conditions to the Screed Operator or Foreman.
- Assist with measuring asphalt width, depth, and surface characteristics to ensure project specifications are met.
- Support paving crew activities, including preparing equipment and maintaining a clean, organized work area.
- Perform daily equipment inspections, routine maintenance, and safety checks.
- Assist with the preheating, cleaning, and general upkeep of screed equipment.
- Work closely with crew members to achieve production targets and paving quality standards.
- Promote, execute, and adhere to the company’s safety program, and encourage all employees, sub-contractors, and consultants to adopt safety as a culture.
- Must ensure a solid understanding of and comply with the principles of the company's Code of Ethics.
- Must examine situations in light of the principles of the Code of Ethics.
- Other operation related duties as required.
Qualifications | Requirements
- High School diploma or G.E.D preferred
- Class 5 drivers license required
- Minimum of 2-3 years experience with highway paving or road construction preferred
- Knowledge of asphalt paving operations and materials considered an asset.
Working Conditions
- Schedule of Monday - Saturday up to 12 hours per day (weather dependent). Overtime is paid in accordance with applicable employment standards legislation.
- Out of town travel may be required, accommodations and Live Out Allowance is applicable in most situations.
- Work is performed in an outdoor setting, which could include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust and asphalt.
- Must be physically able to repetitively lift and carry at least 50 LBS on a regular basis.
- Use of Personal Protection Equipment is required.
- Must comply with the company's drug and alcohol testing requirements.
