THE ROLE
Position: 2 I/C (Marine Atlantic)

Location: Marine Atlantic Terminal Nova Scotia Yard (North Sydney, NS)
Reports To: Site Manager
Responsible For: Second-in-Command Supervision, Acting Site-Supervisor/Alternate Domestic Ferry Facility Security Officer (DFFSO) in the Site-Supervisor’s absence, scheduling of team and personnel shifts
Working Hours: Monday-Friday, 1500-2300 and after-hours call-out as required
Wage: $24.70 per hour

Duties and Responsibilities:
While duties vary by assignment, the responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:
- Acting Site-Supervisor/Alternate DFFSO in the Site-Supervisor’s absence (training provided by CNS)
- Supervising and leading employees on assigned shifts in the absence of the shift supervisor
- Filling in as Shift-Supervisor or Guard position when all other options have been exhausted
- Effectively coach, motivate, and provide feedback when necessary
- Undergo Drug and Alcohol (D&A) Testing training and administer tests as directed by Marine Atlantic (D&A Testing training provided)
- Ensuring timely and accurate delivery of communication, including all Incident reports
- Providing the shift schedule one month in advance to all shift teams
- Liaising with and providing guidance to supervisor leadership (e.g. Shift-Supervisors) for each Team
- Resolving any payroll issues in liaison with staff and CNS Head Office Finance staff and ensuring the integrity of payroll hours for all crews. Providing this information to CNS payroll office to coincide with pay periods.
- Addressing/resolving all complaints in a timely, professional, and satisfactory manner
- Keeping the Site Supervisor, District Manager, client and other stakeholders apprised of all events and incidents as applicable
- Actively meeting as a member of the Marine Atlantic Joint Occupation Health and Safety Committee and leading the committee in the absence of Site Supervisor
- Investigating all alarms and alerts recorded by the Genetec alarm system
- Ensuring pictures and valid information are obtained for new, lost, broken or expired Restricted Area Passes and forwarded to 65 Memorial Drive for issuance
- Ensuring an adequate supply of testing materials, as well as calibration of devices used in the Drug and Alcohol testing program
- Requesting snow removal services, when required
- Completing administrative duties as required
- Must complete Commissionaires Supervisory Level 1 and 2 training
- Must complete Marine Facility Supervisor Officer training within probationary period (training provided by Commissionaires Nova Scotia)
- Must complete Drug and Alcohol Test training within probationary period
WHO WE ARE SEEKING
Eligibility Requirements
Candidates must:
- Be a current commissionaire employed at the Marine Atlantic site
- Be aged 19 or older
- Be a Permanent Resident of Canada or Canadian Citizen
- Not have a criminal record for which a pardon has not been granted
- Be able to provide fingerprints and complete a criminal record check
- Be eligible to apply for Government of Canada personnel security screening
- Be able to communicate effectively in English
- Be able to successfully complete Marine Facility Security Officer (MFSO) training immediately after assignment to the role
- Be able to successfully complete the Drug and Alcohol Testing Training Course immediately after assignment to the role
- Be able to successfully complete Supervisor Level I & II Training immediately after assignment to the role
