Paralegal / Legal Assistant II – Collateral Documentation

Anchor Days: Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday
Schedule: Monday–Friday, standard business hours, 37.5 hours/week
Duration: 3 months, with possible extension
Position Overview
We are seeking a Paralegal / Legal Assistant II to support a discrete project focused on secured collateral documentation review, filing identification, and tracking. The successful candidate will review deal and loan documentation, identify secured collateral filings in Canada and the United States, and accurately extract relevant information for tracking and reporting.
This is a 100% back-office role with limited external interaction. The position requires strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, proficiency in Excel, and the ability to work independently.
Key Responsibilities
- Review loan, financing, deal, and related legal documentation.
- Identify and validate secured collateral filings.
- Review PPSA filings in Canada and/or UCC filings in the United States.
- Extract relevant filing and collateral information from legal and lending documentation.
- Enter and maintain accurate information in Excel tracking files and reporting logs.
- Monitor and maintain collateral filing records.
- Support collateral tracking initiatives and project deliverables.
- Ensure accuracy, completeness, and timely turnaround of assigned documentation reviews.
- Work independently while collaborating with legal, lending, operations, and project stakeholders as required.
Required Qualifications
- 4+ years of experience in a legal, paralegal, law clerk, loan documentation, secured lending, or related environment.
- Knowledge or hands-on experience with PPSA filings (Canada) and/or UCC filings (United States).
- Experience reviewing legal, loan, financing, or collateral documentation.
- Previous experience working within a law firm, legal department, or related legal environment.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Paralegal Diploma, Legal Assistant Diploma, Law Clerk Diploma, or equivalent legal education.
- Law firm experience.
- Commercial lending or secured lending experience.
- Experience supporting collateral management or loan documentation functions.
- Exposure to both Canadian and U.S. secured lending and collateral filing processes.
Work Environment
- Primarily independent, document-focused work.
- Approximately 10–20% of time spent in meetings.
- Majority of time dedicated to document review, data extraction, tracking, and analysis.
- Internal interaction with legal, lending, operations, and project stakeholders.
- Limited external interaction.
- Hybrid work arrangement with Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday as anchor days.
