POSITION SUMMARY:
The Electrical Engineering Technologist’s primary responsibility is to develop protection and control design packages and provide technical support while working collaboratively with Engineers, Technologists, Designers, and other project team members.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop AutoCAD / AutoCAD Electrical and SDS Protection & Control drawings, including single-line diagrams, schematic diagrams, three-line diagrams, connection and wiring diagrams, cable schedules, database/drawing set-up, and development of standard templates.
- Perform raceway fill calculations, cable tray loading calculations, cable selection and sizing, and other electrical design calculations.
- Develop communications and SCADA architecture schemes, points lists, RTU, and HMI configuration files.
- Assist with electrical system studies, including grounding, cable ampacity, load flow, short circuit, arc flash, and relay coordination using standard engineering software.
- Perform site visits to gather technical data, meet directly with clients, verify existing conditions, and provide technical support during construction.
- Develop protection relay setting files and assist with protection and control system configuration.
- Develop and support 3D physical design of substations using software such as Substation Design Suite (SDS), Revit, and Autodesk Inventor.
- Prepare and maintain accurate engineering drawings, design documentation, calculations, and technical deliverables.
- Adheres to all company workplace policies, standards, procedures & safe work practices; and,
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
CANDIDATE PROFILE:
- Associate or full certified member of the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (CET) preferred but not mandatory.
- Diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology or a related discipline.
- Must be familiar with applicable electrical codes, standards, and industry practices.
- Strong proficiency in AutoCAD; experience with AutoCAD Electrical is considered an asset.
- Experience with Revit and Autodesk Inventor 3D is preferred.
- Ability/interest in learning 3D design for physical design of substations using Substation Design Suite (SDS) software by Spatial Business Systems.
- Experience with DIALux, EasyPower, ETAP, or other electrical engineering software would be considered an asset.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Experience in the electrical, utility, power systems, or engineering industry would be considered a strong asset.
