The Company:
Our client is a growing Food Processor / CPG vertically integrated company operating across multiple divisions and sites in Eastern Canada.
Ownership is seeking a Senior Financial Controller with at least 10 years of relevant experience to lead Finance and Operations Finance across the business portfolio.
The Opportunity:
This is a hands-on, strategic role close to the operations. As Senior Financial Controller, you will be responsible for the reliability of financial information across the Ontario entities, structuring, controlling, analyzing and presenting clear results that support sound business decisions.
You will connect finance directly to production, inventory, packaging, processing, costs and margins, alongside operations and finance teams, to improve processes, strengthen controls and make financial information clearer, faster and more useful.
Job Duties & Responsibilities:
Produce reliable financial statements
- Complete monthly and annual closings
- Review the general ledger and validate accounting entries
- Prepare bank and inter-company reconciliations
- Prepare financial statements
Ensure internal control and compliance
- Apply and improve accounting policies and financial procedures
- Control expense approvals, payments and significant accounting entries
- Clearly assign responsibilities to limit errors and fraud risk
- Coordinate external audits and ensure tax, regulatory and documentation compliance
Lead and develop the accounting team
- Support and guide the accounting resources across the entities
- Ensure closing deadlines are met
- Standardize work methods, reports and procedures
- Collaborate with the Québec finance team for consistent consolidation
Budgets, analysis and KPIs
- Participate in annual budgets and financial forecasts
- Analyze variances between actuals, budgets and forecasts
- Monitor costs, margins and profitability by activity, customer, product or entity
- Build dashboards that support decision-making
Support management and improve processes
- Provide management with reliable results and useful analysis
- Identify key financial and operational risks and recommend improvements
- Support banking files, audits and special projects
- Integrate AI and automation to improve processes and reporting
Ideal Qualifications & Competencies:
- University degree in accounting; CPA designation or CPA path strongly preferred
- 10+ years of financial control experience, ideally in agriculture, food manufacturing, packaging or a multi-entity environment
- Advanced Excel skills and strong comfort with ERPs, including Sage; Power BI is an asset
- Experience supervising an accounting team
- French-English bilingualism is an asset
- Accuracy and judgment, analytical thinking, a strong understanding of operations, good organization, respect for deadlines and a collaborative leadership style
