Role Description The Independent Medical Evaluator is responsible for conducting objective, evidence-based medical assessments for IME purposes in an on-site setting based on their geographical catchment area. This role includes reviewing medical records, performing structured interviews and examinations, and documenting findings in clear, comprehensive reports. The evaluator will provide impartial opinions on diagnosis, functional capacity, prognosis, and causation as required by referral sources such as insurers, employers, or legal representatives. The role also involves adhering to applicable clinical and professional standards, maintaining confidentiality, and meeting timelines for report completion. Collaboration with administrative staff, participation in quality assurance activities, and occasional communication with referring parties are also part of day-to-day responsibilities.
Qualifications
- Licensure and good standing as a physician or other regulated healthcare professional (e.g., specialist in relevant field), with experience in clinical assessment and documentation.
- Strong skills in medical history-taking, physical or functional examination, and interpretation of diagnostic tests.
- Demonstrated ability to prepare clear, concise, and well-structured medical reports for non-clinical audiences.
- Knowledge of independent medical examination procedures, disability evaluation, and medico-legal concepts is an asset.
- Excellent analytical, critical thinking, and decision-making abilities, with a commitment to impartiality and evidence-based practice.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain complex medical information in accessible language.
