Role Description:
The Claims & OS&D Specialist is a full-time, on-site position based in the Greater Toronto Area, Canada.
We are looking for a detail-oriented and experienced Claims & OS&D Specialist to join our Claims team.
This position is responsible for managing freight claims, and Overages, Shortages & Damages (OS&D) from initial notification through investigation, documentation, negotiation, and resolution.
The ideal candidate will have experience in LTL transportation, freight claims, cargo claims, insurance claims, or transportation operations. We are open to candidates with strong claims and insurance experience who may have limited direct OS&D experience but have a solid understanding of claims investigation, documentation, liability, and settlement processes.
This is a hands-on role that requires strong attention to detail, investigation skills, communication, and the ability to work closely with customers, carriers, terminals, drivers, operations teams, and insurance partners.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage freight, cargo, and OS&D claims from initial notification through final resolution.
- Investigate LTL freight claims involving overages, shortages, damages, loss, and concealed damage.
- Review and verify supporting documentation, including BOLs, PODs, delivery records, photographs, inspection reports, invoices, packing lists, and other shipment records.
- Investigate the circumstances surrounding damaged, lost, short, or over-delivered freight.
- Coordinate with terminals, drivers, dispatch, operations, customers, carriers, and other internal departments to gather information and determine the cause of a claim.
- Communicate with customers and carriers regarding claim status, required documentation, investigation findings, and resolution.
- Work with insurance providers, brokers, and other external parties where applicable to support the claims process.
- Assess documentation and available information to determine liability and support appropriate claim settlements in accordance with applicable requirements and company procedures.
- Maintain accurate and complete claim files, including investigation notes, correspondence, supporting documents, settlement information, and follow-up actions.
- Monitor outstanding claims and ensure timely follow-up and resolution.
- Identify recurring damage, shortage, loss, handling, packaging, loading, or delivery issues and communicate trends to management and operations.
- Analyze claims and OS&D data to identify root causes, trends, and opportunities for improvement.
- Prepare regular reports and summaries on claims volume, types, trends, financial impact, and resolution status.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives related to freight handling, LTL service quality, claims prevention, and OS&D processes.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications:
- 3+ years of experience in transportation, freight logistics, freight claims, cargo claims, insurance claims, or a related field.
- Hands-on OS&D experience is strongly preferred, but candidates with strong freight/cargo claims or insurance claims experience are encouraged to apply.
- Strong Knowledge of transportation documentation such as BOLs, PODs, and carrier freight claims.
- Strong claims management and claims handling skills, with experience investigating, documenting, and resolving freight or insurance claims.
- Analytical skills to review shipment data, identify patterns, determine root causes, and recommend process improvements.
- Knowledge of insurance principles and practices related to cargo liability, coverage, and claim settlements.
- Clear, professional communication skills for interacting with customers, carriers, internal teams, and insurance representatives.
- High attention to detail, accuracy in documentation, and strong organizational skills.
- Proficiency with office and logistics systems (e.g., TMS, Excel, claim management tools).
- Ability to work on-site in the Greater Toronto Area and collaborate effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Post-secondary education in business, logistics, insurance, or a related field preferred, or equivalent relevant experience.

Compensation: $70,000–$85,000 per year, negotiable based on qualifications, skills, and relevant experience.
