Position Summary
The Inventory Controller is responsible for overseeing and maintaining accurate inventory levels, inventory records, material flow, and stock organization to support efficient production operations. This position develops and implements inventory control strategies designed to control costs, minimize waste, reduce excess and obsolete inventory, improve inventory accuracy.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
- Develop and maintain effective inventory management practices to optimize stock levels, control costs, and support production requirements.
- Maintain accurate inventory records, stock locations, labeling, transactions, work orders, and material allocations.
- Monitor inventory accuracy through cycle counts and physical inventories; investigate and resolve discrepancies, shortages, overages, and variances.
- Ensure materials are properly received, verified, recorded, stored, and available to Production when required.
- Monitor delayed, missing, back-ordered, excess, slow-moving, and obsolete inventory and communicate issues promptly.
- Maintain organized and safe inventory and storage areas in accordance with company procedures, food safety, and GMP requirements.
- Prepare and review inventory reports and monitor material usage, costs, waste, scrap, and inventory performance.
- Identify and implement opportunities to improve inventory processes, reduce waste and costs, and increase efficiency.
- Manage the distribution, tracking, and return of employee uniforms and lockers while maintaining accurate records.
- Communicate inventory concerns and material requirements with Production, Purchasing, Warehouse, Quality, Maintenance, and Management.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, inventory controls, GMP, food safety, and safety requirements.
- Provide support and guidance to employees involved in inventory-related activities and perform other duties assigned by Management.
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum 3 years of experience in inventory control, warehouse operations, materials management, or a related role, preferably within a food manufacturing or production environment.
- Experience using an inventory management system, ERP system, or computerized stock-control system.
- Strong understanding of inventory control principles, cycle counting, stock reconciliation, and inventory accuracy.
- Experience investigating inventory discrepancies and implementing corrective actions.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to analyze inventory data, identify trends, and prepare reports for management.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with multiple departments.
- Previous experience in a food manufacturing environment and knowledge of GMP requirements is considered an asset.
