Sustaining Manager - Onsite
We’re looking for a hands-on, self-motivated Sustaining Engineering Manager with a background in product development with a proven track record of successfully managing sustaining product development and manufacturing support. You will be responsible for leading a cross-functional team, organizing support of product manufacturing-related activities, and ensuring objectives are accomplished to meet the business and customer objectives.
Note, this role is in a fast paced environment with many variables and daily challenges.
Location: Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
Salary Range: $119,500 - $159,300 plus bonus opportunity

Your Challenge:
- Supervise a highly knowledgeable and motivated team of engineering staff
- Responsible for the work assignments of staff allocated to the Sustaining Team
- Responsible for the career development, training and performance evaluations of staff allocated to the Sustaining Team
- Promote quality standards and procedures and create a work environment of continuous improvement.
- Support all phases of product development by attending key reviews to ensure sustaining needs are met during new product design
- Participate in bid activities such as developing technical proposals and providing detailed cost and schedule estimates
- Experience with leading Engineering Change Requests (ECR) to the completion of the Engineering Change Order (ECO) to support development and manufacturing
- Interact with manufacturing and quality to aid in sustaining efforts surrounding product lines
- Acts as a liaison between Sustaining Engineering and R&D
- Supports the RWS department in analyzing field failures, resolving technical related issues, and solve technical problems
- Supports the Production and Quality departments in analyzing production failures, resolving technical related issues, and solving technical problems
- Supervises and schedules the creation of product variants
- Supervises and schedules the evaluation of obsolete part replacements
- Provides technical direction and guidance, as well as hands-on project management for all initiatives related to sustaining engineering
- Other responsibilities as directed by management
What You Bring:
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science, Technologist Diploma or equivalent will be considered
- 8 years industry experience relating to electronics computing. Prior experience in a managerial or leadership role is preferred
- Demonstrated creativity, foresight, and mature engineering judgment in anticipating and solving unprecedented engineering problems.
- Demonstrated drive and ability to achieve goals in an innovative and fast paced environment.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and able to react to shifting priorities to meet business need.
- The candidate should be a results-oriented team player who leads by example, holds themselves accountable for performance, takes ownership of their responsibilities, and champions process improvement initiatives;
- Outstanding interpersonal and presentation skills - both written and verbal; to liaison with internal and external customers
- Self-confident leader capable of motivating and mentoring their staff.
- Hands-on leader and comfortable walking the floor.
- High attention to detail and solid engineering background
- Ability to estimate/schedule development projects
- Experience/familiarity in the following is an asset:
- Development of electronic assemblies for aerospace applications
- Design for manufacturing processes and techniques
- Design for rugged environments
- Open system standards such as VME, VPX, XMC and PMC
- Leading-edge Intel and NXP/Qualcomm processors (x86, PA, ARM)
- Leading-edge Broadcom Ethernet Switches
- High-end FPGA design
- Latest embedded industry technologies, such as Gen 3/4 PCI Express, 40GbE Ethernet, USB 3, DDR4 memory, etc.
- Working knowledge of PCB technologies including stack up definition, material selection, IPC etc.
- Experience with product configuration management (Agile PLM)
- Python scripting
