Data Governance Specialist – Master Data Management (MDM)
We are seeking an experienced Data Governance Specialist with strong expertise in Master Data Management (MDM) to support the development, implementation, and ongoing management of enterprise data governance practices.
The successful candidate will work closely with business, technology, data owners, data stewards, and risk stakeholders to establish governance standards, improve data quality, define master data processes, and ensure critical enterprise data is managed consistently throughout its lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the development and implementation of enterprise Data Governance and MDM frameworks, policies, standards, and procedures.
- Define and maintain master data domains, data ownership, stewardship, business rules, and governance controls.
- Partner with business and technology teams to establish consistent definitions and management of customer, product, vendor, reference, and other critical master data.
- Develop and maintain data dictionaries, business glossaries, metadata, data classifications, and data lineage.
- Identify and remediate data quality issues, including duplicate, incomplete, inconsistent, and inaccurate master data.
- Define and monitor data quality rules, controls, KPIs, and remediation activities.
- Support MDM processes including data matching, cleansing, standardization, deduplication, hierarchy management, survivorship, and golden-record creation.
- Facilitate working sessions with Data Owners, Data Stewards, business SMEs, technology teams, and other stakeholders to resolve governance and data quality issues.
- Support integration of master data across enterprise applications, platforms, data warehouses, and downstream systems.
- Maintain governance documentation, approvals, issue tracking, controls, and evidence required to support regulatory and audit requirements.
- Provide reporting on data quality, governance compliance, MDM issues, risks, dependencies, and remediation progress.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in Data Governance, Master Data Management, Data Management, Data Quality, or a related discipline.
- Strong hands-on expertise with MDM concepts, frameworks, processes, and implementation practices.
- Strong understanding of data ownership, stewardship, metadata management, data lineage, data quality, reference data, and data lifecycle management.
- Experience defining data quality rules, governance controls, business definitions, and remediation processes.
- Experience working with MDM platforms such as Informatica MDM, Reltio, Profisee, SAP MDG, IBM InfoSphere MDM, or similar technologies.
- Strong understanding of MDM concepts including matching, merging, survivorship, hierarchy management, deduplication, and golden records.
- Strong stakeholder management and facilitation skills with the ability to work across business and technology teams.
- Strong analytical, documentation, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience within banking, financial services, or another highly regulated enterprise environment.
- Experience supporting enterprise-wide Data Governance or MDM transformation programs.
- Familiarity with data governance platforms such as Collibra, Informatica Axon, Alation, Microsoft Purview, or similar tools.
- Knowledge of regulatory, privacy, security, and compliance requirements related to enterprise data.
- Experience with cloud data platforms, data warehouses, APIs, and enterprise data integration.
