Job Summary
The Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing DNA’s day-to-day accounting operations and ensuring that financial information is accurate, complete, and available on a timely basis. This is a hands-on role in a project-based environment, with primary responsibility for managing core accounting activities, supporting payroll and financial reporting, and supervising two Junior Accountants.

- Reports to: Operations Manager
- Direct Reports: Accounting Assistant (2)
- Works closely with: Project managers, leadership, auditors, and has support from Dillon Consulting’s finance team.
Job Responsibilities
Day-to-Day Accounting Operations
- Oversee the daily accounting activities of the company and ensure transactions are recorded accurately and on time.
- Maintain the general ledger, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting documentation.
- Review accounting work completed by Accounting Assistants for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with established procedures.
- Ensure accounting records are organized, current, and readily available for reporting and review.
- Respond to routine accounting inquiries from employees, project managers, vendors, and leadership.
- Maintain practical, clear, and up-to-date accounting procedures and documentation.
Month-End and Year-End Close Financial Management and Reporting
- Prepare monthly financial statements.
- Lead month-end and year-end close.
- Investigate variances, unusual transactions, and discrepancies, escalating issues as appropriate.
- Maintain general ledger and reconciliations.
- Deliver clear, timely reporting to leadership.
- Maintain practical, useable financial procedures.
Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and Billing
- Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable processes.
- Monitor cash flow.
- Ensure accurate bank reconciliations.
- Drive collections and resolve billing issues.
- Maintain work-in-progress records and support timely project billing.
Payroll Administration
- Administer semi-monthly payroll for ~50 staff
- Ensure payroll processes are reliable and compliant.
Team Leadership and Supervision
- Supervise and support accounting staff.
- Ensure work is completed accurately and on time.
- Coach and develop team members.
- Maintain quality and accountability.
Compliance and Controls
- Ensure compliance with tax and regulatory requirements.
- Oversee tax filings and remittances.
- Maintain effective internal controls.
- Lead audit and year-end process.
- Proactively identify and address risks.
Process Improvement and Support
- Improve processes to increase efficiency and accuracy.
- Strengthen reporting and tools.
- Provide timely support to project managers and leadership.
- Improve financial understanding across the team.
- Ensure documentation is current and useable.
- Support business priorities, as needed.
Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA designation or working towards a CPA designation is preferred.
- 5 + years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in a small to mid-sized or project-based company.
- Experience supervising or mentoring accounting staff preferred.
- Strong financial reporting and controls knowledge.
- Experience with payroll processing and related compliance requirements.
- Experience with Deltek Vantagepoint preferred (or similar project-based ERP).
- Advanced Microsoft Excel and systems experience.
- Strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
- Able to improve and simplify processes.

- Financial records are accurate, current, and reliable.
- Monthly and year-end reporting is completed on time with minimal errors or corrections.
- Semi-monthly payroll is processed accurately and on schedule.
- Accounting assistants are well-supported, productive, and meeting deadlines.
- Internal controls are consistently followed, and compliance requirements are met.
- Management has timely financial information to support sound business decisions.
- Accounting processes run efficiently, with continuous improvements identified and implemented.
Work Environment
- The work location is based out of our North Vancouver office, walking distance to the SeaBus
- Primarily in-office; up to two days WFH per week after onboarding, based on performance and business needs
- 5 hours per week, core hours are 10 AM to 3 PM

Compensation
Base Salary: $90,000 - $115,000
This compensation range considers a wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including but not limited to job-related skills, experience, and relevant training or education, business and organizational needs. Actual offers will be based on a combination of these factors, taking into account internal equity.
