We are seeking a forward-thinking Innovation Counsel with M&A and securities experience to join our Innovation team, with a primary focus on transforming legal workflows through the application of generative AI. The successful applicant will work closely with lawyers across our Montréal, Toronto, and New York offices to identify and implement AI-powered solutions that enhance efficiency, accuracy and client value in M&A and securities transactions. This role is ideal for an experienced corporate counsel who is passionate about legal technology, process improvement and the transformation of legal services. Responsibilities will include ideating, designing and implementing generative AI-powered workflows tailored to the Corporate group’s practice needs, as well as serving as a key resource for training and supporting lawyers in our Corporate group in the adoption and effective use of generative AI tools.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the Corporate group to identify challenges and opportunities for workflow transformation using generative AI in M&A and securities matters
- Translate legal process challenges and ideas into actionable, scalable generative AI prompts and workflows
- Design, test and implement AI-driven document drafting, research, analysis workflows and prompts tailored to the Corporate group’s practice needs
- Lead and participate in training sessions, workshops and one-on-one coaching to upskill lawyers and staff on generative AI tools and best practices
- Serve as a subject matter expert and first point of contact for generative AI-related questions for the Corporate group, providing hands-on support and guidance
- Collaborate with knowledge management (KM) to identify KM collections and precedents that can be used as sources for generative AI tools
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD) or equivalent legal qualification; active bar membership preferred.
- 3+ years of experience as a practising corporate lawyer, with a focus on M&A and/or securities, and a demonstrated interest or experience in legal technology, innovation and/or process improvement
- Strong understanding of generative AI concepts, legal tech tools (e.g., Harvey, Copilot) and workflow automation
- Excellent skills in communication, training and interpersonal relations
- Proven ability to lead change management initiatives and support lawyers in adopting new technologies
- Analytical mindset with a demonstrated passion for problem-solving and continuous improvement
- Ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams and manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Bilingualism (English/French) is strongly preferred.
Salary Range
The expected starting salary range for this role is $145,000 - $155,000. The final offer will be determined based on the successful candidate's experience and qualifications.
