Responsibilities
Tasks
-
Command and operate ships or vessels to transport passengers and cargo
-
Supervise and co-ordinate activities of deck crews
-
Determine geographical position using navigational instruments, maps and charts
-
Direct and oversee the loading and unloading of cargo
-
Maintain vessel's navigational instruments and equipment
-
Control, steer and navigate a vessel in various waterways
-
Enforce regulations in Canadian waters
-
Record vessel's progress, weather and sea conditions in ship's log
