Senior Claims Adjuster – Commercial General Liability & Bodily Injury
Greater Toronto Area | Hybrid (1 day per week in office) | Permanent, Full-Time
$80 000 – $110,000 + 10% target bonus + Defined Benefit Pension
About the Opportunity
My client, a well-established Canadian property & casualty insurer is looking for a Senior Claims Adjuster for its commercial liability team. This is a technical, hands-on role for an adjuster who genuinely enjoys the complex end of the CGL book, not volume file handling.
The commercial book here is large and growing, with meaningful concentrations in contracting and manufacturing. Think construction defect and faulty workmanship losses, municipal exposures, product and occupier's liability, and litigated bodily injury files. If your idea of a good week involves a plumbing failure that flooded ten floors of a high-rise and the coverage analysis that follows, this is your file.
You'll join a tight, collaborative team of roughly eight, supported by a senior claims consultant on larger risks and a dedicated claims trainer.
What You'll Do
- Investigate, negotiate and settle serious CGL and bodily injury claims from first notice through resolution
- Confirm coverage and complete full liability and damages investigations on complex exposures
- Instruct and manage external partners, independent adjusters, defence counsel, engineers and other experts
- Calculate ultimate probable exposure and reserve accordingly, keeping files current with reserve worksheets, case law, and medical and liability documentation
- Prepare Major Loss and Reinsurance Reports and participate in the Claims Committee process
- Represent the company at private and mandatory mediations, pre-trials and trials (travel required)
- Mentor and coach intermediate and junior adjusters on the team
What You Bring
- 6+ years adjusting CGL and bodily injury claims, with true depth in complex, litigated files
- Strong coverage background. duty to defend vs. indemnify, product liability, occupier's liability and environmental losses
- Municipality losses and construction wrap-up experience is a significant asset
- Insurer-side file ownership. This team is looking for adjusters who have carried files start to finish with full authority and all the touch points that come with it
- Solid grounding in regulatory and contractual obligations, medical terminology, vocational rehabilitation concepts and dispute resolution
- Experience with internal and external audits
- University or college degree; CIP designation completed or in progress
- Guidewire experience is an asset
Why This Role
Culture is the thing this team leads with, and it holds up: a supportive group, real investment in development, and leaders who protect the one-day-per-week hybrid model.
- Defined Benefit, increasingly rare in this market
- Company paid benefits
- Company Bonus
- $1,000 annual matched savings plan (RRSP, TFSA or NRSP)
- Mental health benefit
- Annual wellness allowance, internet reimbursement, home office furniture allowance
- Free parking
The posted range reflects the expected hiring range. Candidates bringing genuine depth in complex CGL may be considered above the maximum.
