About This Position
The Project Exploration Engineer/Geologist is responsible for the operational and technical management of one or more exploration projects. They coordinate the implementation of exploration programs (mapping, sampling, drilling), interpret geoscientific data, and supervise field teams. This strategic role requires strong technical expertise, a high degree of autonomy, and excellent planning and communication skills to support investment decisions and subsequent stages of mining project development.
Key Responsibilities
1. Technical Project Management
- Design, plan, and execute exploration programs (geochemistry, geophysics, diamond drilling, etc.).
- Supervise field surveys, including geological mapping and lithogeochemical, soil, till, and channel sampling programs.
- Define exploration targets by integrating historical data, geological models, and survey results.
2. Team Supervision and Field Operations
- Lead and mentor junior geologists, technicians, and contractors.
- Coordinate logistics, including site access, transportation, accommodations, and safety requirements.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety procedures and standards (CNESST and Dhilmar standards).
3. Geological Interpretation and Modeling
- Compile, validate, and interpret geoscientific data (drilling, geochemistry, and geophysics).
- Generate geological cross-sections and 2D/3D models (lithology, alteration, structures, and mineralization).
- Develop target models and recommend next steps for exploration programs.
4. Budget Tracking and Reporting
- Assist in the preparation and monitoring of exploration budgets.
- Prepare internal and external technical reports (NI 43-101 and statutory SIGÉOM reports).
- Present results to management, partners, or investors as required.
Education and Experience
- University degree in Geology or Geological Engineering.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in the mining industry.
- Proficiency with MDM (Deswik), GED, and ArcGIS software.
- Bilingualism is considered an asset.
- Member, or eligible to become a member, of the Ordre des géologues du Québec or the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec.
Working Conditions
- 14 days on / 14 days off rotation schedule.
- Based at the Éléonore Mine Site (round-trip flights provided from Montreal, Chibougamau, Matagami, Rouyn-Noranda, Val-d'Or, and Wemindji).
