Key Responsibilities- Manage full-cycle accounting for development and construction projects, including invoices, payments, journal entries, remittances and lot sale transactions revise
- Review monthly HST returns and support HST-related accounting and reconciliations
- Record and reconcile project revenue, development fees, recoveries and other project-related transactions
- Prepare and maintain project cash flow projections
- Assist with the preparation of year-end project financial statements and corporate tax information
- Review Statements of Adjustments prepared by lawyers and discharge statements provided by creditors/lenders
- Monitor project budgets, commitments and actual costs, including job setup, subcontracts and change orders within the accounting system
- Maintain and apply standardized project cost codes across development and construction activities
- Perform month-end and year-end closing procedures, reconciliations and supporting schedules
- Monitor banking activity and investigate discrepancies, fees and cheque/payment differences
- Manage and oversee the Accounts Payable function, ensuring accurate invoice processing, proper approvals and cost coding, timely payments, vendor reconciliations, and resolution of discrepancies.
- Assist with the implementation, documentation and maintenance of internal financial controls and accounting procedures
- Maintain accurate project accounting records and ensure financial information is properly captured within the accounting system
- Prepare timely financial reporting, analysis and recommendations to support management decision-making
- Ensure accounting practices comply with internal policies and applicable regulatory requirements
- Assist with the training, organization, and supervision of the accounting department, as required
- Work closely with internal departments, project teams, lawyers, lenders, consultants and other external stakeholders
Qualifications & Experience- University degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field
• Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience
• Experience within real estate development, residential construction or homebuilding is strongly preferred
- Strong understanding of project/job-cost accounting
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
• Strong working knowledge of QuickBooks
• Experience with BuilderLynx is an asset
- Experience with HST, real estate closings and Statements of Adjustments is a strong asset
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
