The Opportunity
The Early Childhood Development Coordinator will work closely together with the Language Programs and Family Services Departments to support and supervise the early LINC childhood childcare programs. The ECD services childcare centres are designed to provide care to the children of adults who are studying in the LINC classes and to connect families to community ECD programs. The primary responsibilities include supervision of ECE staff, recruitment and ongoing training of staff, program planning, development and delivery, evaluation, administration of agency policy and ensure all agency ECD LINC Childcare programs are delivered in accordance with best practices and are of utmost quality and according to the B.C. Childcare Licensing Regulations and B.C. Early Learning framework. The ECE Program Coordinator is also the Licensing manager of the childcare facilities and must report to the centre’s Childcare licensing officer.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversees the day-to-day operation of the LINC Childcare programs by ensuring that the necessary facilities and equipment are in place, program guidelines and policies are adhered to, and program standards are met, and licensing requirements are met. that all child-minding centres are always in compliance with B.C. Childcare licensing regulations. Coordinates and participates in the delivery of quality preschool and childcare programs in accordance to contractual obligations and accreditation standards.
- Supervises program staff by performing duties such as coaching, providing feedback, conducting regular staff check-ins and monthly team meetings and performance evaluations in conjunction with the Program Managers, providing staff feedback to the Manager to aid with performance evaluations. Ensures that the childcare serves as support to reduce barriers to service to parents accessing the LINC program. Will orient staff, determine the need for and provide training to program staff, volunteers and practicum students. The ECE Program Coordinator will also help to resolve employee concerns, manage conflict between staff, and report these to the manager, as needed.

- Develops and implements ongoing quality improvement, Plans and facilitates professional development and ECD best practices and activities for the programs. according to the needs of the staff, program and ECE best practices.
- Support and supervise Multicultural Outreach Staff with coaching on community ECE outreach work.

- Plans and implements program activities and daily events, which are developmentally appropriate to the needs of the children in consultation with program staff.
- Plans and creates monthly curriculum activity sheets, and teaching resources which are developmentally appropriate to the individual needs of the children in the group in consultation with the program staff.
- Provides and prepares organizes teaching resources, monthly classroom curriculum bins, which include science, math, healthy habits, color of the month and any special celebrations for both childcare centers materials and supplies for both ESL Centres.
- Purchases materials and supplies needed monthly according to the program needs and monthly budget.
- Monitors service quality of the program and participates in the development and implementation of quality assurance measures and initiatives.
- Ensures the safety of all children by ensuring that the childcare staff administering the always follow the Centre’s guidelines for discipline and managing behaviours.
- Reports instances of suspected child abuse to the manager and the appropriate authorities.
- Participates in the recruitment and selection of program staff by performing duties such as: screening applicants, participating on interview panels, and making hiring recommendations and the onboarding of new staff.
- Promotes public awareness of and support for the program by performing duties such as producing promotional materials and attending community events, as well as providing parenting information and referrals to parents.
- Supervises and supports staff in the planning and implementation of educational workshops for parents.
- Performs administrative duties: collate and summarize data, write reports, monthly reporting daily, classroom attendance, updating classroom forms, updating daycare manuals, budget tracking, documentation, casual call out, put together registration packages, register and provide an orientation to new families. the preparation of the Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) report, and any other reports as required.
- Liaises with community service providers and other professionals to coordinate service provision, facilitate referrals to the program and represent the organization or program in external events.
- Liaises with Program assistants on childcare space availability to ensure that childcare centres always meet their target.
- Keeps Managers informed about significant developments.
- Assists Managers with recruitment of program staff and conducting annual appraisals.
- Stays abreast of current developments in the field of Early Childhood Education and continues to upgrade professional skills to meet current standards.
- Adheres to Society and personnel policies, procedures and practices.
- Attends team and DIVERSEcity meetings and participates in multi-disciplinary committee work.
- Perform other duties as required.
- Provide supervision to program participants in a simulated daycare setting.
Qualified candidates will possess:
- Early Childhood Education certificate and minimum three to five years’ experience working with children in a preschool or childcare setting
- Experience with Facilitating parenting programs
- Experience in a preschool setting and/or Infant/ Toddler Certificate or special needs certificate
- Proven supervisory and leadership skills and experience.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Strong organizational, time management and delegation skills.
- Strong ability to take initiative and problem solve.
- Knowledge of multicultural and settlement issues, especially as they pertain to immigrant children and families.
- Standard First Aid training, Child Safe Training.
- Knowledge of basic computer skills required.
