Position Summary
Under the direction of the Superintendent of Special Education and Learning Services, the Behaviour Analyst reports directly to the General Manager of Clinical Services and Special Education and is a member of the Board-level Multidisciplinary Team. The Behaviour Analyst will support schools across the system through behaviour analytic assessment of student needs, data collection and analysis, consultation with staff and families, direct and indirect intervention, and professional capacity building, in alignment with Board procedures and guidelines from the Ministry of Education.
Qualifications For Behaviour Analyst
- Master’s Degree in Psychology, Education, Speech-Language Pathology, Applied Behaviour Analysis or another related area of study from an accredited institution.
- Master’s level training in Applied Behavioural Analysis.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience working with students with Autism, developmental disabilities, and complex behavioural profile.
- Registration with the College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario.
Qualifications/Additional Experience
- School-based experience preferred.
- Evidence of commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion.
- Experience with the design and implementation of assessment and intervention strategies that are appropriate for the school context.
- Mastery of ABA principles, theory, methods and evidence-based practices for the school context.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills with multidisciplinary education teams.
- Ability to create and facilitate professional learning opportunities for board employees.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct behaviour analytic assessments of students with complex behaviour needs to determine the function of behaviour, set goals, and propose strategies for behaviour interventions.
- Provide short-term direct intervention for students, with a gradual release of responsibility to the school Team.
- Deliver or facilitate the delivery of evidence-based behaviour analytic programs to change behaviour or teach a replacement behaviour.
- Support students’ skill acquisition and functional communication through Applied Behaviour Analysis, in collaboration with the school Team.
- Collect baseline behaviour data and monitor student progress toward goals through data collection and analysis in collaboration with the school Team.
- Utilize non-violent crisis prevention and intervention strategies to safeguard student and staff safety when required in collaboration with school Team members.
- Attend Team Meetings and Multidisciplinary Case Conferences, as appropriate.
- Co-facilitate goal setting meetings with the school Team and families.
- Plan and formulate behaviour support plans and intervention programs to address student specific needs, in collaboration with Teachers, parents, and other Special Services Personnel.
- Consulting with classroom Teachers, Support Services Personnel, Administrators, and parents regarding student behavioural and learning needs.
- Collaborate with school staff to inform the preparation of Safety Plans.
- Contributing to the formulation of Individual Education Plans.
- Record keeping, report writing and data collection, as required.
- Liaise with parents regarding student progress, goals, behaviour support strategies for the home, and pathways to community care.
- Work constructively and cooperatively with professionals from community agencies to assist students and families in accessing services and supports.
- Adhere to the Standards of Practice of the Board, the Multidisciplinary Team, and the Regulatory College where applicable, including informed consent, record keeping, report writing, data collection, caseload statistics, etc.
- Provide professional capacity building to other members of the school community (e.g., Applied Behaviour Analysis).
- Supervise post-secondary Behaviour Analyst students in placements, as appropriate.
- Provide Multidisciplinary Team representation on Department or Board project committees.
- Represent Dufferin-Peel in committee work with community agencies, as directed by the Superintendent.
- Perform other related duties, as assigned.
Working Conditions
- Itinerant.
- Valid Driver's license and reliable transportation required.
- Requires private workspace for confidential work, locked filing cabinet, access to photocopier, fax machine and outside phone line.
- Requires the ability to deal with stressful and emergent situations, and to support student safety with de-escalation strategies and crisis intervention.
